Unhappy neck lump---now known as mass...

Hi all....just to up date you all...Husband and I went to Spec. Doc....and he felt the lump---like I said...It's extreamly large....he was real through...and checked under Husband's arm pits...and checked up on his liver, and pelvic area....GOOD NEWS.....Lump seems to be only in one area....bad news.... The Doc started calling it a MASS....(don't like that word one bit) and schedualed a CT asap!! He's having one tomorrow...The Doc said that way he'd know if he had to do a needle biopsy....or to schedual surgery A.S.A.P....To remove the MASS...

I almost killed my hubby today....while at the Doc's office...he tried to mimize the symptoms he has been having....espically the weight loss...I really noticed it the other day, when he had a pair of jeans on.....He normally wears sweats at work..so he is able to tighten them with the pull string....he had on a pair that he hasn't worn since we went out on our dinner date back in Feb for our anniversery---and they fit him then....yesterday...they were hanging on him...He's trying to tell the Doc...that "oh, it's normal, and he looses this weight every year when it gets Hot.." Well, it has only recently started getting warm in N.E. Fla...and it's not that hot yet...(a few days here and there)...we are now starting to get into the really hot weather in the next few weeks....(the true sauna type)....

After a while, the Doc stopped talking to my hubby, and started listening to me.... ----esically when he asked if my husband was dieting (men...always trying not to show weakness... :rolleyes ..,,...and I said no...and my husband tried to tell the Doc that he was eating okay...NO WAY...My Husband normally LOVES his food...and has a huge appitite....and even before the lump appear'd...he's eating started to dwindle off...he'd eat only a little bit...espically if it was his favorite food....(and when he'd normally go back for the sneak bite----the food ended up having to be thrown away)....

ANYHOW......just wanted to update you.....We've had some really good talks...espically today....the kind where you really are able to open up your heart....I swear sometimes, life gets so crazy----you forget just how important your love'd one is to you...seeing them everyday, you take them for granted....

I'll let you know what the Doc says....

Re: neck lump---now known as mass...

Hi Tiny, The doctor asked my husband the same questions

and checked him in the same areas and used the word

mass and cancer on are first visit. I am glad to see your

doctor is moving quickly for us everything was very slow.

It was like 8 weeks until we found out it was just an

infection. By the way my hubby lost his apetite as well.

But its back again good luck to hubby. Haylee

Re: neck lump---now known as mass...

Hi Tiny

Most doctors refer to lumps as mass when scheduling further testing. I had a small lump on my breast and the doctor called it a mass - it was a cyst!

Going on the worst scenario, let's just say it is a lymphoma - I personally know four people with this and they are all fine - one guy was diagnosed 15 years ago, another 20 years ago. Lymphoma's are treatable, just keep that in mind.

On the other hand, he may have a virus, low grade infection which is affecting his appetite - fear and stress will do that even if we don't admit it.
I am sure in his own way, your husband is concerned which is causing a level of stress.

Keep us posted - in the event it turns out to be anything more than a virus, let me know and I can recommend some top doctors who have treated people I know. And keep in mind, attitude is more than half the battle.

Re: neck lump---now known as mass...

Thanks...he has already been treated with 2,000 mg of penicellen for over 10days,....while we were waiting for the appt. with the speciliest(sp?).....and taking this med(1,000 mg twice daily) the lump aka the mass didn't go a way..nor did it get smaller....the widest part actually spans my palm...and I don't have a small hand....so it's approx 3"(possibly) 4" wide....and it goes from the base of his jaw, back to just under his skull.....then down...not quite to his collar bone....about to his adams apple........he's extreamly well muscled, so, if you didn't knw it was there....it would be hard to see....

I'm glad he's getting the cat scan today....and hopefully he'll be set up for surgery next week....as for his appitite being off...this started before the lump was discover'd....weird stuff...

I'll keep you all informed...Blessings

Re: neck lump---now known as mass...

Good luck with the cat scan let us know how it goes.

They put my hubby on antibiotics for 10 days and it

did not work either. The surgeon has him on two very

strong antibiotics now. Even with that after 2 weeks was

still able to drain 2 containers more of gunk from his neck.

Hang in there Haylee
