Confused about results of FNA - Lymphomas Message Board

I called my doctor today to find out if he knew anything about the results from my FNA Biopsy two days ago on Wednesday and he called back to say the preliminary findings were 95% benign but the results were not final yet - I felt better when we hung up but then I called the doctor who performed the procedure to check with him and he said the results are not in yet and that I would hear from my internist. I told him what he had told me and this doctor said he didn's know where he got the 95% from bec the results weren't in yet - probably on Monday and I'd have to wait. Should I feel better or still unsettled with this information? What about the other 5%? Was my doctor just telling me this so I would relax over the weekend - I'm not sure what to think.

I am thinking that your doc said 95% because he feels by your symptoms, texture and size of lymph nodes he thinks that there isnt much to worry about. Some docs will say this and others wont say anything because they dont want to be wrong or take any chances. This is my guess, but none the less i guess you will have to wait, and best of luck to you.

I called my doctor back yesterday(Monday) and when he returned my call he said he didn't have the pathology report results yet and wanted to know if I was calling about anything else..Hellooo?? of course I want my results and my biopsy was last wednesday - I guess I want to know whether this kind of wait is normal or not because between him telling me it's 95% benign, I'd like to know about the other 5% and my family and friends keep calling me to find out if I heard anything yet..it's driving me alittle crazy..

I guess you will have to decide in your mind whether you want speed or accuracy. I know its a hard wait. Just tell yourself that if it is benign, you want them to take the time to make sure and if it is malignant you also want them to make sure. I would be more afraid if the results came back fast.(my opinion). Remember the longer it takes for the results to return, the less likely anything major is wrong. This is not 100% but, at least it makes the waiting easier. Good luck
