Question 4 yr old with lump below collarbone

Hi all, I just need some advise. My 4 yr old has had a lump below her collar bone for about 2 yrs. I brought her to the doctor when I innitally discovered it. He said not to worry about it and never had tests done. Now 2 yrs later it is still there it may be slightly bigger but not by much. Recently withing the past month she has been complaining of pain in her thigh and her arm. All on the same side as the lump. She has a rash on her arms that you cannot see unless you are up close but you can feel it (it feels bumpy like sand paper). Her stomach has also been hurting sometimes on the same side as the other things. She goes to bed every night at 8pm and has been getting up about 4 times complaining of being to hot. Everyone else in the home feels fine. She has also in the last couple of days been acting out of the ordinary. crying alot, staying awake in her bed until 1am, just in general acting out of the ordinary. Does anyone have any comments or advise. I don't know if these things are related are if I am over reacting. Any comments would be great. Thanks

The rash sounds like it could be a reaction to fabric softener or detergent in the clothing. 4 year olds can be very hyper-sensitive to temperature. The pain she is referring to could be itching or a sensation of a limb falling asleep. She could have strained muscles while at play and just be very sore. If she is running a fever she needs to see a doctor. If she is not running a fever and you are still concerned, ask the doctor to check her out. 4 year olds are too precious to play guessing games with their health.

Re: 4 yr old with lump below collarbone

I'm not a doctor, but I know alot about kid rashes as my child had the same problem as yours just recently I might add. For a year she's had this rash around her belly, arms and legs. I thought nothing of it till she complained about it how it was really itchy.

So, I took her to her doctor, and he said she has a classic case of Eczema. He said for me to avoid things like fabric softener, and to use baby soaps and shampoos and to only wash her ever other day.

You will have to take your child to the doctor, to see what he/she will say, as you'll need Hydrocortisone, which is probably the best way to keep the rash under control. But you could use vasoline twice a day to affected areas to keep the skin moist. The other thing you could is experiment with changing her soaps, and fabrics (as your child could be allergic to different kinds of fabrics.) If that lump has gotten bigger, then you should get it checked out.

I hope this helps,

Flora.
