Is This Sound Advice?

Okay, I talked with my dr. this week and after reviewing the neck ultrasound and watching the neck node and the node near my underarm, she feels, along with the dr. at the hospital that I consulted with....that it is safe to just watch the 2 nodes for signs of enlargement. She pointed out that my bloodwork was good, which from what I understand doesn't mean much. She said that if I had lymphoma of any aggressive sort, it would show an elnargement of my nodes, much faster than they are. They are stable at this time, not going down, but not growing either. She says that if by chance I have an indolent type of lymphoma, they would not treat it now, but rather wait until it affected my wekk being. SO she said that knowing I had a slow growing type would probably just greatly hinder my quality of life by worrying me constantly. I voiced some concern to her that I have had what I have been calling a low grade fever, since Jan. ( same time as nodes began) Prior to that time, I cannot be sure what my normal temp. was because I rarely ever took it unless I felt sick, and at those times I was running fevers of course. So she asked me what my low grade fevers were, and I told her anywhere between 98.8 - 99.2 She says that this is not considered a fever at all. She said that a fever, even low grade is not considered until 99.6.
I guess what I am saying is I would love to put this behind me and move on with my life, if the advice I have gotten is good. I also don't want to shrug it off as nothing, if it isn't sound advice. Do any of you know if she is correct about the fever ranges, and would you feel comfortable with watching it and seeing if it grows? I am leaning toward that, but if anyone feels I am missing something here, please let me know.....so confused.

Re: Is This Sound Advice?

the question is can u live with this advice, becuase if u are going to dwell constantly over if they are growing or not and really can't stop thinking about it than i would get a solution. i have been going through the same thing, i have some lymph nodes in my groin, that have stayed enlarged for about three months now, they are about 1cm and smaller, maybe a little bigger but narrow and long not round, i saw gp's and a urologist and they said it was nothing to worry about but just in case i had a ct scan with contrast and it came back normal, i also have a swollen tonsil and a couple of swollen nodes in my neck, i went to the ent and he said there is nothing to worry about, thath they might be swollen from my surgery i had, i feel like im in the same boat as u, if u look up info on lymphadepathy, u may feel better no that it is one of the most common things doctors see in there offices and way more times than not, lymph nodes are benign than cancerous, and if u are under the age of 40, i think it is like .04 percent chance of it being cancer, i am only 25 and have read all this material and still want to no why these lymph nodes are there so, if it is going to drive u crazy than find out, i will wait a year and if there is no growth i am moving on but meantime i would take it easy and try to focus on something else. oh yeah just so you no the median age for indolent lymphoma is 60,

I want to thank you so much for your reply. I do feel alot better after reading it. It helps to know other people are where I'm at, even though I don't wish this worry on anybody. I am 31, so I am under the median age. I think I am going to give it some time and just see if they get larger. I have been putting off relocating, pending the outcome of this stuff, but I think I am going to go ahead and move and try to get on with it all. If God forbid it does end up being something, I will have to deal with it when the time comes. But I am tired of putting my life off worrying over this. You mentioned your one node is long but not round. I have the exact same thing in my neck node. The dr. commented on the fact that in length it is like 1.7 cm but in width it's only. 5 cm. So he wasn;t even sure if it would be classed as "swollen" since it was only enlraged in one direction. I have been thinking about seeing a naturopath ( a reputable one; I have done alot of reasearch to find her) and just trying to get my general health on track and eat better, deal with stress better, etc. I think that is the focus I need to take now. I hope yours will turn out to be absolutely nothing, and please check back in and let me know. I will wonder about you.

Re: Is This Sound Advice?

Storms, I have been in the same situation as you. I have noticed some of your other posts. My MCV is very mildly low (79 with normal starting at 80) also. I have had nodes in my chin, both sides, enlarged for a few months and my doctor is in a watch and see mode.

Have you found anything out?? Did you ever get the biopsy?? Good nes I hope!!! Thanks for your help
