How accurate are ultrasounds ?? - Lymphomas Message Board

My 18 year old son had an ultrasound done on his neck and the report is as follows :

Impression :
Left neck subcutaneous nodule which appears benign as
described.
The subcutaneous tissues there is a solid ovid mass
that measures 1.1 x .53
cm. This nodule is well circumscribed, appears well
encapsulated and
probably is benign. It could be a lymph node. Complete
characterization
would require excision and histologic evaluation.

So far the news sounds good, but he has to see an ENT to have it biopsied to verify these results.
We are waiting for a referral to go through. This could take awhile for him to be seen and have this resolved.

Could anyone help me ??

Why do you need to see and ENT and not a surgeon?

Hi Debbiefix,
That's a good question. I guess the dr. wants him to have a consultation with an ENT first ?
They're sure dragging their heels on this one. I haven't even been able to set up an appt. for him yet.. waiting for the referal to go through and then there's the issue of him being 18 and getting him to sign release forms, so I can be involved in this.
It's extremely frustrating to say the least.

I think most ENT's are surgeons.
