Diagnosis

My sister received this from the doctor and has to go for consultation in a few days. Is anyone familiar with any of these terms? From the research I've done so far, it appears that there is an 80% chance that the tumor is benign.

FINDINGS: THERE IS A DENSELY ENHANCING MASS NOTED IN THE PERIPHERAL ASPECT OF THE RIGHT PARTIOD GLAND WHICH MEASURES 2.8X1.8CM. THIS IS UNCHANGED FROM THE PREVIOUS STUDY. AT WHICH TIMETHE MEASUREMENTS WERE OBTAINED IN THE CORONAL PLANE. (RIGHT CHEEK) THE 8.21 CM. TRANSVERSE DIMENSION IS THE SAME AS THE TRANSVERSE DIMENSION ON THE CORONAL MEASUREMENT.

THERE IS A SINGLE LESS THAN 1CM LEFT SUBMANDIBULAR LYMPH NODE. THERE IS NO SIGNIFICANT ADENOPATHY OTHERWISE IN THE NECK OR THORACIC INLET.

THE AIRWAY IS WIDELY OATENT. THERE IS REDEMONSTRATION OF MILD MUCOPERIOSTEAL THICKENING OF THE RIGHT MAXILLARY SINUS.

IMPRESSION: PROBABLE BENIGN TUMOR OF THE RIGHT PAROTIOD GLAND AS DESCRIBED . THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF CERVICAL ADENOPATHY. AGAIN, TISSUE DIAGNOSIS IS RECOMMENDED FOR FURTHER EVALUATION.

I've posted a lot in the lung cancer section of these boards. My brother at 49 passed away 9 months after his diagnosis.

This diagnosis is really saying that they spotted the item the doctor wanted them to look at and that they do not know for sure what it is. They are saying that most of the time those items are benign but to be on the safe side they are recommending that the doctor who ordered the test make the call on whether or not to seek a biopsy. The cat scan really pinpointed the exact location of something that was already known to be there. I am sorry about your brother. My brother was also diagnosed at 48 with lung cancer and died just before his 50th birthday. It was all over the place before they even knew it was in his lungs. His first symptom was an enlarged lymph node in his groin that he did not tell his doctor about until it became painful.

Re: Diagnosis

Hi Merimac, thanks for the response. My sister had another biopsy the same day of the cat scan. She just sent us a picture (she's out of state) of her face and you can clearly see the protrusion from her right check in front of her ear. I saw a similar picture online. She goes March 8 for the surgery and is supposed to hear the biopsy results Monday 2/20.

I am sorry to hear about your brother. My brother was sick for 3 years with bad colds, bronchitus, and the last time pnemonia when the doctor said 'something else is going on - let's do some tests.'

I feel blessed that the last day he was here on earth that I was able to be with him. I had only planned on seeing him for about an hour, but when I found out that nobody was there that day and he didn't expect anyone - except my sister (the one who we're talking about) who was flying in - I decided to stay. He was really out of it and very antsy.

well, I'll let you know how she's doing. take care

Re: Diagnosis

Today was my sister's surgery. She has cancer. She was in for 3 hours to remove the tumor and was brought back in to do more surgery. They told my bil that it was treatable. I guess we will know more after they are done with the surgery. She has to go for radiation. Anyone have any information on mellanoma ? My bil couldn't say it right.

Re: Diagnosis

She just got out of surgery and my bil was told it was Adenoid spit gland cancer which was very rare. Then they told them it would be at least a few days before the test results were in. How can they tell him that already then when they need to do more tests? Anyone familiar with Adenoid cancer?
