Mother's diagnosis - Help please - Lymphomas Message Board

Hi there. After having a routine kidney CT scan for diabetes, they found several growth, which they believed were lymphoma. Make a long story short, they could not do a guided biopsy, there was no lymphoma from a bone marrow biopsy (thus, not in the bones), and thus last Friday they cut her open for a biopsy.

The diagnosis is non-Hodgkins follicular b-cell lymphoma low grade. I think it is slightly in her lungs and colon as well. Is there hope?

Please know that there is ALWAYS hope. The human spirit is strong and there is so much more available today in medicine that cancer is no longer a death sentence. Be agressive in your search for the best possible care...look at all avenues and make the choice best for your mother. Choose your physicians carefully and consult with a nutritionist asap. Believe me..its important. I was diagnosed with Hodgkins with a medialstinal mass that was the size of a tangerine when it was discovered. That was 11 years ago. Like I said..there is always hope. There is absolutely lots of hope, particularly for this kind of lymphoma, which I also have, though mine is also in my bone marrow. I have already had three cycles of chemotherapy/rituxan and the scan shows the lymph nodes in my abdomen are greatly reduced in size since July.

What is the treatment plan for your mother? There are several treatment options and this lymphoma is very slow growing so, unless it is interfering with any organs and causing problems, she has time to decide what treatment to take. Do let us know more. I am sure we can help more with any questions you may have.

I Totally agree

There is always hope - stay strong, stay positive and keep us posted.

If it's any consolation I think it's always harder on the family. My family suffered a lot more than I did - so your mum is probably dealing with it better than anyone else (if that makes sense)

I honestly felt fine with it all!!

Thanks a lot, ladies. You have confirmed what I have heard from a lot of other people, that is that the diagnosis, while bad, could have been a lot worse. She starts treatment soon, and we are very hopeful.
