Multiple Swollen Lymph Nodes

Last Sunday I had sharp reoccuring pain on the right side of my neck, under my ear. It slowly went away, (the sharp stabbing feeling that is) the next day. But on Sunday when the pain started I noticed several swollen nodes, lumps on my right side, just the right side. Because of the pain I decided to contact an ENT. I thought ENT b/c when I was 11, 14 years ago, I had similar lumps on the right side and I went to the ENT and they did blood work and eventually a biopsy on my neck that removed one of the lumps. My mom doesn't remember much just that it was benign and it was possibly a cyst. Maybe a bracheal cyst. So I tell the new ENT all of this and at this time the pain is just more uncomfortable and tense, tight feeling. He feels the lumps and decides we are going to do blood work, CBC, metabolic workup, and thyroid workup, and then a soft tissue neck MRI with contrast. He puts me on an antibiotic and pain meds. I stop taking both after 2 days b/c I became nauseus, dizzy, and starting vomitting. My normal temperature is 96.2 but it has been flucuating from 95.8 to 98.0. My themometer is correct b/c we purchased another one just to make sure. Next we do the blood work. It all comes back normal. I did the MRI and I was called today and told that the only thing that turned up was multiple swollen lymph nodes. They put me on the zpak which I started today and I have a follow up in ten days. The thing is I believe that the lumps, swollen lymph nodes on just the right side of my neck have been swollen for as long as I can remember. Why just the right side? I am looking for any feedback on what this might be? What I should do? If it was something viral or an infection wouldn't it show up in the blood work? Other health issues I have are migraines just on the right side for the most part, tired, and my memory seems to be faltering. I never thought these things were related but maybe-you never know.

Thanks for any feedback.

I am sorry about your concerns.

You said that all of your right lymph nodes were up, all my lymph nodes are up on my left side!!

No one has yet explained to me the significance of this yet!

If you find an answer please let me know.

Good luck with all the tests.

Best wishes Susie

Re: Multiple Swollen Lymph Nodes

Thank you so much! Isn't it weird that lymph nodes can be swollen on one side and nothing seems to show up in general blood work? It is so frustrating. And you just want answers and all it seems like you are doing is waiting for the doctor to decide what to do with you next. That is how I feel anyway. My ENT doc is a good one, but I hate the waiting. I am now on the Zpak to see if they go away but they have been there for a few years I believe anyway. Then I go back on March 19th for a follow up to see what steps are next if they are still there. I just keep the faith that everything is okay and it will be okay if I believe. Someone else responded to my post on another thread and this is what she had to say. And it could be acurate. I do have a big nose, lol. Well, a big bump in the middle.

Sounds like chronic sinusittus on one side.. tis is possible if you have structural factors such as a divated septum, or smaller nasal passages on on side of you sinus cavities. We are hardly ever symmetrical and my right side sinus structure was smaller than my left.

I would see how the anti-biotics go and possible check into an allergist.. incase it is an immune response to something in your environment.

Sincerely,
MG

Are the lymph nodes just enlarged then in your neck? These appear if you have ear ache or "sinusitis" and other head and neck infections or a sore throat/cold.

Mine are up in the neck, collar bone, armpit and groin area, plus I have enlarged lingual tonsils and spleen.

Most of my normal bloods seemed to always come back normal except my inflammation markers were always high and white blood count. When my physician took specialist bloods and sent them away, some of them came back abnormal, but I don't know which ones.

Just ask for a biopsy!!

I don't think having a bump on your nose matters!!

Take care and keep me posted Susie.

Re: Multiple Swollen Lymph Nodes

The lumps are only on the right side of my neck under the back part of my jaw and ear. It could be sinuses. I think they have always been there though, I don't think they have ever gone away. I don't have a cold that I know of right now, and I don't have tonsils, lol. Those were taken out several years ago. Maybe the bump (large bone sticking out in the middle of my nose) is a sign of the deviated septum and chronic sinus issues? Then I could have that fixed and all would be well, hehe.

Do they have any idea what is going on with all of your lumps? I am sorry to hear about that. My mom always tells me to be positive and throw it out into the Universe that everything is just fine and then it will be. Kind of like think it and it will happen.

I will keep you updated. Today is the second day of the zpak out of 4 and they are still as big and as many as they have been, but it is only day 2 so I shouldn't expect change yet. A couple of them are the size of grapes and then a couple the size of peas.

Hi

Antibiotics are really horrible aren't they, how are you getting on with them? have you had any side effects yet?

Keep with them and you'll hopefully feel better soon.

I like your mums saying, it's true, it's like throwing caution to the wind!!

Let me know how you get on and if your nodes go down at all.

Take care Susie x

Cool Re: Multiple Swollen Lymph Nodes

My mom is pretty smart lady...
The first antibiotics they prescribed me made me sick. I had to stop taking them b/c I became really dizzy and I was throwing up. But the Zpak has been good, no side effects that I can tell. Today is day 3, one more day. The lumps haven't seemed to have gone down yet. Only time will tell.

I had my husband do the flashlight thing and my left side hole is really small. A lot smaller than the other side, but the other side is always slightly stuffy. My nose isn't really crooked just has a big hump in the middle.
