What would you do...

I am being treated for HD and am currently away from home receiving treatment. My girlfriend and family are all back in the states and I think I would like to go home and finish my treatments there so I can be with them. My doctors are all completely against it for good reasons I guess, but I was just wondering what anyone else would do in this situation. I seem to be having some bad luck issues and I think every day is such a worry for them that it stresses me out thinking about how much I'm worrying them. I'm just unsure as to what to do...

I'm also curious as to how anyone who is being teated or has been treated deal with setbacks? How do you manage to not let setbacks frustrate you or get you depressed? I'm having a difficult time dealing with each new curve thrown at me, but I'm trying not to worry anyone with these things.
Thanks in advance

Re: What would you do...

Hi, welcome to the board. I'm also being treated for HL, on my last cycle so can't wait til it's all over. Can i ask where are you just now? And why are your current doctors against you going home to the states, i guess it would be different if your home had difficulties obtaining meds or something.

How far are you into your treatment? I think that it would be in your best interests to return home if you are feeling down, it would be better if you were around your family and friends. But thats just my opinion.

Take Care
Amanda

Re: What would you do...

My current doctors are against me going home because they think I should finish up my treatments before I do anything. I've had a bit of bad luck with everything so far...low counts that have postponed treatments along with pneumonia, and I was in a bad car accident that required me to have a surgery and has left me with multiple broken bones.

I'm in England at the moment and I'm desperate to get back home. My chemo has been all messed up due to the situations that have occured and my last scan has showed almost no changes, which is frustrating. My mum had a rare form of cancer that spread in such a way they were actually studying her and I almost want to be treated by her old doctors, based on that.

Re: What would you do...

I can understand why your doctors would prefer you to stay and complete your treatment but I even more understand why you would want to be back home with your friends and family. I cannot tell you what to do but, if you are feeling well at the moment, I would be inclined to go back home. I am wondering though how you would be able to travel comfortably as you say the accident left you with mulitiple broken bones. I think family support is really an important part of recovery and you may find you respond better to treatment if you have your loved ones nearby. You really have had some bad luck, haven't you? I hope that whatever you decide, you start to feel better soon.

Re: What would you do...

I would want to be around my family so if it's safe I would go!!!

I know it's not quite the same but halfway through my treatment (ABVD for HL) I went to Prague for a long weekend Hen do and that's a 4 hour flight and 4 days of hard partying!! (though I will hold my hands up to suffering more than usual on the next treatment due to excess booze - oops - still it was worth it as I had a fab time)

Good luck with whatever you decide!!

Ails xx
