I know I'm just being a worry-wart here, but I wanted to see what else I should be looking for and how long I should wait before bring my 8 yr old to the doctor about this.
About a month ago he complained of two lumps on the back of his head, one near the top and one near the neck. They are hard, fixed, non-painful and slightly larger than a pea. I told him they were lymph nodes and he might be getting sick. A week later he ended up with a rash on his face and I did take him in to the doctor. I didn't mention the lymph nodes because I figured they were part of what was happening with the rash. From looking at him (no tests) he guessed it was a staph infection and put him on antibiotics. He's been done with the antibiotics almost two weeks now and the rash is long gone... but the lymph nodes are still hard/fixed/non-painful. I believe they are the same size. He's also seemed a little lethargic to me the last month. At the start of the summer he was excited to go to the pool most days and now I almost have to force him to leave the house.
Could this just be the lingering from his infection or something unrelated? I'm posting hoping for some educated guesses. I want to bring him in but wonder how long I should wait before the lymph nodes should go down on their own. Sorry I didn't know what other category to post this under.
I will take him in if they are still there over the next week or two.
I was told it can take several weeks for lymph nodes to go down. I would just call the doctor's office and ask their advise about it. They might want to see him right away or maybe they'll tell you to wait. It will take a lot of stress off you if you let them make the decision.
I agree....it is probably the lingering effects of the infection. However, I would take him to be checked so you can stop worrying! Let us know how it goes.
