Results of CT Scan of Swollen Lymph Nodes in Neck

Went back to see my primary today to get the results of CT scan. Nodes in my neck have been swollen since 7/12. They are still swollen today but he doesn't think it's lymphoma. I have had a tight feeling in the side of my face around my jaw.

The scan impression reads: Prominent right submandibular gland that may be due to inflammatory change but no evidence for any enhancing tumor mass or any fluid or abscess formation. There is also a small lymph node at the base of the tongue (1 cm) on the right just anterior to the submandibular gland. No evidence for cervical adenopathy and otherwise normal CT of the neck without and with contrast. No stone in Wharton's duct can be identified.

Tomorrow I go to see ENT doctor for second opinion. My primary doesn't think she will do a biopsy based on CT scan. I hope not because I am going away on Saturday and just want to forget this for awhile. I've been worrying so much I'm ready to take a break.

I have been praying a novena to St. Jude who is a wonderful saint know as the saint of the impossible. I have also been praying to the Blessed Mother and the Divine Mercy of Jesus. I know so many people who have been cured through prayer.

Will let you know what the ENT doctor says tomorrow.

Re: Results of CT Scan of Swollen Lymph Nodes in Neck

Hi Lucy,
Sounds like good news! May I ask you how swollen your nodes are and where exactly in your neck they are. I have been going through pretty much the same thing, I found 2 little nodes on the side of my neck (about mid-way down) and have gotten several opinions, even one from a surgical oncologist. They all say they are normal, not enlarged, just there. But of course I'm still worried. Thanks for your help and glad your news is good!

Re: Results of CT Scan of Swollen Lymph Nodes in Neck

The first node that swelled up is on the right side of my neck under my jaw. It popped out when I bent my head back. It's still there but it has decreased some. I would say it was as big as a walnut and now it's about half the size. On the left side the dr said I have hard lymph nodes that I cannot feel myself. This I don't understand so I'll see what the specialist says tomorrow. I have allergies and post nasal drip most of the time so I'm hoping that's the cause. It's almost like you can't be really sure about lymph nodes unless they are removed and tested. I'll keep you posted on what the ENT doctor says tomorrow.

Re: Results of CT Scan of Swollen Lymph Nodes in Neck

Went to see the ENT doctor and was impressed with her knowledge and certainty. She examined my neck, the lump and my mouth, nose, etc. Then she got the CT scans out and put them up and reviewed them with me. She was very serious and all busines, very matter of fact. She didn't even look at the radiology report but went into great details explaining what she saw. In the end she said the lump is a swollen submandibular gland which may have become inflammed due to infection or just might be permanently enlarged. When she pushed on it I could feel saliva entering my mouth and the lump became smaller. She told me to massage it during the day and drink lots of water so it doesn't get infected. She told me I don't even need to return unless it becomes large and hard. I was puzzled and asked her about the swollen lymph nodes on the left side of my neck and she said there aren't any. Thank you God and St Jude! I told her how this caused me such anxiety for two months and I wished that I came to her sooner. She said when the first round of antibiotics didn't work I should have seen her then. For anyone who ever reads this, the lesson I learned is to go to a specialist early on. Don't wait for months and put yourself through what I went through worrying. I wish everyone good health, peace and love.

Lucy
