node in groin, swolen for about a year now....

Hello.
I really like this message board, so i thought i'd start a post. Im not a hypocondriac, in fact, i prety much avoid the docs at all cost. I eat super heathy and work out regularly. I also havent been sick in about a year either. However...
My lower left abdomen, i have a lymp node that has swolen to about the size of a marble. I remember exactly when i noticed it, i felt a small twinge of pain, and then felt this teeny tiny lump under my skin. So, needless to say its bigger. The last couple weeks it itches like crazy (but that could be due to my csection scar, that happens sometimes). It has a dull ache that comes and goes. Im tired ALOT, but that could be atributed to having small children . Ive lost about 40 lbs in the past year... but like i said, im prety healthy.
It just kind of bugs me, because all the research i do, i keep coming back to this topic.

About 6 months ago, i went to my OBGYN 1st, having no idea what it even was. SHe didnt know at all. Send me to get an ultra sound, and ordered the wrong kind. The lady who did it was nice enough to notice that they needed to take some other kind of pictures. The results came back "has a lump in groin area" or something like that... ohh that helps.

So i went to a regular doc. SHe said it was definitely a node. So she refered me to a sergion. Now he just wants to "take it out" and do ANOTHER utrasound to see if i dont have a hernia behind it or something.

Im just plain sick of the docs. I hate going and sitting for 40 minutes only to wait longer in the room, then see the doc for 5 minutes, then they "refer" you to someone else, then you owe them a $30 co pay... ahhhhh

So should i be woried, has anyone gone through a similar situation. Im just a little more concerned, cause its such a dull constant ache, its getting prety anoying.

So thanks for reading my long post, and thanks in advance for replying!!!

Re: node in groin, swolen for about a year now....

im sorry i sound like such a jerk... most of you are going through some crazy REAL stuff, and my prayers are with you. My questions just seem really lame compared.
It sounds like most of you on here have such positive atitudes, that is so uplifting...
Dont Change..
My grandmother just had a full masectomy... and i swear staying positive was the best thing, now she is recovering great, and ive never heard her in a better mood.

Re: node in groin, swolen for about a year now....

Hi.. I have the same symptoms as you and I also went to my OB GYN and she sent me for an ultrasound. She told me it was a Blood filled cist on my ovaries. I lost my insurance so I have not been able to follow up with it. I plan on going soon.
I have the same dull pain and it gets worse around my cycle each month. Are you experiencing added pain during that time? I have wandered myself if it is something else like lymphoma.
My husband currently has Non hodgkins Lymphoma but his started in his face.(in the skin) He is dealing with alot right now.
I hope this helps a little but I would definitely keep a check on it. You have reminded me to get mine checked out again! Thanks!

Tracie

Sunny, almost same here.

Hi Sunny, I also felt a 'twinge' when I discovered an inguinal lymph node, (inguinal area: upper most portion of our leg next to our 'private parts') It felt strange for a couple of weeks, then the twinge, it was walnut size.

They might do a biopsy with a fine aspiration needle to get some on the contents out. It hurts, make sure they put some kind of topical numbing novacaine, before they extract, otherwise it hurts like he**.

You do need to have it surgically removed. They'll be able to tell you exactly what it is.

Try not to worry about it, you cant change anything 'right now'. But make sure you follow up on this quickly, okay?

I'm female, (duh), 51 and was dx'd with hodgkin's lymphoma (not NON-hodgkin's) early this summer. Had petscan done, throat area of concern, biopsies done, squamous cell carcinoma left true vocal cord, and hyperplasia's in several different areas. (yes, I smoke and stress smoking more now. I'm stupid that way, I guess)

Chemo started last part of September, had 2 weeks worth and decided I wasnt getting the 'care' I thought I needed. So I'm headed to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Zion, Ill this coming Tuesday.

hodgkin's lymphoma/disease is rare, (1% of all cancer dx'd) and rarer for women to have it, but if caught early, the success rate is high, that's why I dont want you waiting around, please be active about getting it out.

Dont want to scare you, it could be anything, but that 'twinge' we felt, my former cancer dr said we are'nt supposed to feel them, I was 'making it up'.
geesh, wonder why he's my former cancer dr..

be well,
Sandie in S.Carolina

Re: node in groin, swolen for about a year now....

Thanks for the advice sandie. You sound like your going through alot, stay positive, good for you for not listening to the first doc. I just have to suck it up and get it taken out. Part of my problem, is i have 2 toddlers, and sergery and todlers dont mix... but i guess better safe than sorry. The only other thing holding me back is my husband. Its not like he's not sympathetic. But he's like "its nothing", "you really wana get cut open", "the doctors just want to cut you open". stuff like that. He's REALLY into natural cures, no meds, etc. Which i understand, but you know when something bugs you..... So its like, part of me should just make the god danged appointment, get it removed, heal, and hear a bunch of "i told you so's" from my husband when it comes back okay, and prety much get no sypathy. And if i got it removed and it went the other way, well if thats the case, it would be good to catch it early, like everyone says.

So... thats where im at...
thanks for listening to me vent.

So Sandie? Did you first get the inguinal lymphnode removed, whats that what showed the cancer? Or did you have other signs. Ahh that smoking thing is bad. Ive just quit after 'only' smoking for a few years. But it figures, the more stressed you are, the more you want one. Try chewing tobacco.. haha.. that'll give ya a nicotine rush from heck..
well hang in there... keep laugin' and smilin'
