Small, hard lump below left ear - Lymphomas Message Board

My husband has a small hard lump below his left ear. He has had it for about 7 months. It gets bigger and smaller, but remains very hard. He has pain in that side of his face and head off and on. Does anyone have ideas what this could be? Should we take this as a red flag? He hates going to the doctor and is hard to convince that he should go. He has no other symptoms, just that. Advice?

Well the good news is I don't think tumors are supposed ot get any smaller...the bad news is I'm not sure what it might be!

In any event its always worth getting something checked out. Health is important something that should never be taken for granted.! I'd try to convince him to go to the doctor just to be sure!

my boyfriend has a lump on his back
its quite large, its also quite soft, but its painless.

he went to see the doctor who said it was a lipoma
(soft fatty tissue which was painless)

its a tumour that is not cancerous but can turn..

what he did say is that if it was to go hard, or to become painful then there may be a problem (may have turned)

since you say his is hard and painful, id definately get into the doctors, if even for peace of mind.

I have a hard lump directly behind my left ear also. I have been told that it is nothing. Mine does not get any smaller and is sometimes a little sore.

I have had TMJ for years, actually have total joint replacement. There is a gland and muscle that is there that will swell up and down. Especially if he grinds his teeth at night. I am hoping I have the right place. It would be right at the corner of your jaw bone behind the earlobe. There is also a pitotid (sp)gland there too. More than likely since it goes up and down it is inflamation. He might get alot of relief if he wears a splint at night believe it or not!!!
