Rather concerned... Any advice appreciated..

Hello,

Here is my story,
20 year old male - About mid January I discovered a firm, round, pea-sized lymph node in my groin area and a bigger oval-shaped node on the side of my neck with a small round one right under it. I hadn't really been sick or anything and this has never happened before so I found it odd. The nodes had also begun to produce noticable dull ache (particularly the groin one) that worried me.

In march, after waiting for the nodes to go down on their own (they didn't) I went to see the doctor about it. He found it odd that the nodes were a little swollen in both areas but otherwise didn't seem too concerned. He ordered some bloodwork done (CBC, Sed Rate, Leukimia) all of which came back normal.

He also scheduled me for an ultrasound on the neck node and a possible FNA biopsy. The radiologist said the node was 1cm in size and that a FNA wasn't necessary.

I was a little relieved after that but the nodes remained and the aches still had me worried. In mid may I went to the doctor again and we decided to do the biopsy anyway. I was all ready to do the procedure when the radiologist found on the new ultrasound that the node was now only 7mm in size. He said "bad things don't get smaller" and recommended that I leave it alone, which I did.

So here I am now mid June, the groin node has gone up in size again to be round and pea-sized, and there is one on the other side as well that is round.
The neck node seems to be pretty much the same. I try not to touch them too much.

Is it normal for them to be aching like this? Some days they really bother me and the ache seems to radiate. I understand that I'm probably overreacting and the doctors don't seem worried but I can't shake the concern that I may be ignoring the early signs of something. What could be causing this? Are they even big enough to be considered swollen?

Any advice at all would be appreciated and thanks for your time.

Hi Muzzle,

The node is considered small. In fact, I was told by an ENT that they will not biopsy until it is the size of a grape.
The fact that the node when down in size is good. Are you on the skinny side? I am skinny and can feel some of my groin nodes.

I am on the skinny side actually. It's the not so much that I'm able to feel the nodes that worries me, it's the fact that they tend to hurt a bit sometimes. Is that normal?

I am not sure what that means. Sometimes I get pain in my groin where I can feel my small nodes and wonder if that is normal. It is usually after a longer run. I don't know for sure. If you are getting aches in your neck I would say that is not normal and should be checked out by a doctor.
