Swollen gland on the left side of neck - Lymphomas Message Board

I've had swelling on the left side of my neck, slightly down underneath my left side of chin, for about 9 months. My throat has never felt sore, just felt swollen on the left side only. Some days, I felt that there was something stuck on the left side of my throat and drank lots of iced cold water to get rid of the problem. That did not work. I went to the doctor and she examined my neck and throat. She felt a lump, which was a lymph node gland, that was between 1-1.5 inches in diameter. I've have been feeling some symptoms of fatigue, swollen gland, and shortness of breath even when I'm not doing anything. In the last month or so, my symptoms have gotten worse than before. I've never felt this tired before in my life. I had a chest x-ray and blood work and they both came back normal. My doctor ordered a needle biopsy to rule out anything serious through an ENT specialist and I am waiting to know some information on where to go for my biopsy, etc. Since my tests, including the blood work came back normal, does that mean I do not have lymphoma (Hodgkins/Non-Hodgkin's) at all? I would appreciate any comments from anyone who have experienced similar symptoms that I've been having for a long time. Please help!

Hi there - it's good that you are getting a biopsy done. Definately proceed with that. That fact that you are fatigue could mean your thyroid. Many times nodes are benign. Good luck.

I am scheduled to have a needle biopsy in a few days. They will numb my neck before they insert the needle in. I was told if the ENT specialist and/or pathologist cannot draw any tissue out to take to the pathology lab for testing during the needle biopsy, they will have to cut a small incision to remove the lump out. I will be under anesthesia if necessary. I am trying to be positive that it isn't anything serious. Thanks so much for your reply!

Hi! I'm having this *exact* same issue right now! It's even in the same area as mine! My doctors have no clue what's going on, and I've had the lump on my throat for about a month now! I had the biopsy, and while it does hurt, lymphoma was ruled out in the end.

Sapphire, I really hope you find your answers soon. If you're anything like I've been, you're probably extremely frustrated by the whole ordeal. Best of luck to you.
