| What is wrong???
I am a 41 year-old white male. I had drenching night sweats back in December, 2008 and they ended up being attributed to pneumonia which was treated with Levaquin which caused them to cease. I might add that I had generalized itching and intense localized itching on my shins that resulted in raw and broken skin from all the scratching. Nothing has provided relief and I take no medications that I can attribute to the problem. In late June the night sweats started again (DRENCHING). I went back to the doctor who repeated the chest x-ray and did a CVC which found nothing. She repeated a round of Levaquin just to see if I would respond and the severity of the sweating decreased while I was on the Levaquin. That course of meds ended three weeks ago Friday, but the sweats never ceased completely. Then a week ago Sunday, while brushing my teeth I noticed swelling just above both of my collar bones. Puffy swelling about the size of an egg on the left side and a little smaller on the right side. There's no knot or anything, just puffy swelling. My doc sent me to a surgeon the next day who noted the puffiness/swelling, but could not find a lymph node to biopsy. Another surgeon looked at it on Tuesday and he could not find a swolen lymph node anywhere either. He suggested a CT scan with and without contrast of the neck and chest. They were completely unremarkable and only showed the swelling that we already knew was there. No explanation for it. The last two nights the sweats have become more intense again. My doctor has consulted with several others who can offer no explanation. I am to see another local internist whom everyone says will figure it out, but I'm just wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience. Could this be lymphoma? That is what my doc feared with the other syptoms and the location of the swelling, but there are just no swolen lymph nodes...any ideas or similar experiences out there?
