Post What could this be?

Hi all!

I'm a 24 year old female.
Back at least 4 or 5 years ago I woke up one morning to find
a shoulder lump. It's still there. Hasn't changed except it gets itchy, and sometimes burns. Then I developed a few more similar lumps on that shoulder, and another on the other shoulder.

Anyway then I devolped some severe itching. All of a sudden I have the urge to scratch my legs and anywhere else (arms, hands, etc). A few times I have scabbed my legs because it itched so bad.

The doctor took a look at the lumps on my shoulder and said they were just cysts, and they were nothing to worry about. He said to come back if they've changed etc.

They've slowly grown on my shoulders slowly (tiny flesh colored new lump growths are growing).

I've wanted to tell my mom and people that they still bother me much, but I don't think they will figure out anything more. I haven't tried any creams, because I know what dry skin looks like, and I don't have dry skin.
What should I do, and what tests should I ask for?
Any blood tests? Anything is helpful thank you much!

No other symptoms except these that are really bothersome......
Not on any meds either.

Re: What could this be?

Hi sorry no one replied...i just became a new member but Ill reply if you dont mind. I wouldnt suggest and dry skin creams but i would try an anti itch cream plus I would also get a second opinion if I were you. If it really itches and the anti itch cream doesnt work i would try applying something cold (not enough to hurt your skin, but like ice in a bag in a washcloth or something) that might help the itching. Im sorry i dont have anything else to really advise you with. Just definitely get a second opinion. Doctors arent Gods they make mistakes..stupid mistakes when they think they have an obivious answer and dont take a closer look. Make sure you note time and day when it itches most...any other symptoms you might be experiencing. Im even taking pictures to go to the doc (number 6 doc for me..ud be taking pictures too lol) so they can believe you.Kinda make a journal out of it...note when it feels the itchest how does the rest of your body feel. Then go to a different doc with your notes and even pictures if you want and demand you get a second opionion! Good luck and keep us posted!!!

Re: What could this be?

I think you need to see a different doctor. I have a friend that is 30 years old that just had a baby and while she was pregnant with her 1st child she had a real bad rash and iching on her back and a cough that she thought was just a cold during her pregnancy. She had the baby and then one of the dr's. ordered a CT scan because this cough would not go away and neither would the iching. Come to find out she had Lymphoma, and these were not symptoms for this cancer. My father also has it and his were completely different. His was he lost lots of weight all the sudden and was tired all the time.
My friend had a lump pressing on her lung and the rash was a symptom of the cancer.
Her lump has shrunk and she is doing better.
So I think you should tell your mother and dr. about this because it could be something serious.
Hope it isn't though! Hope this has helped you and others.
Jodi

Re: What could this be?

I'm sorry about the whole itching issue and amazed at how long you've had this 'cyst'. Someone should have at least opted to biopsy the darn thing by now. I think you should go back and demand that further testing be done and bother as many doctors as it takes to find one willing to test. Many doctors disregard peoples' concerns because somatization in itself is fast becoming a pandemic. They do this to avoid unneccessary testing on healthy people. you have to be persistant with your single most concerning issue, don't bring up secondary or subsequent symptoms. March in and demand they find out what the lump in your back is. Or, if you're more worried about the itching than the lump, make that your primary concern. I have learned over the last few years that a single complaint to a doctor is not enough to warrant any action, no matter how serious it may seem to you. If you go in and tell the doc your lump is worrying you, and he doesn't act, then go to another doc and say the SAME THING: your lump is worrying you. Keep looking, untill one doc reads your medical file and discovers how hard you have been trying to get a single concern addressed. Best of Luck. I sincerely hope all works out for you. hugs
