Might be Lymphoma but swollen nodes come and go. I'm not convinced
My doctor, very gently, told me that I am being referred to an oncologist this week because my recent labs, ct scan, and symptoms all clinically suggest either Lymphoma or Luekemia. I am 35 and have always been healthy. About 5 months ago I started to lose weight unintentionally (now 12%), at the end of June I noticed 2 swollen lymph nodes by my left hip, and starting a month ago I started having blurred vision, night sweats, and shortness of breath. My legs have been itching horribly since I was 27. I lost my mother 2 years ago to lung cancer because she smoked all her life and no other cancer history I know of. I realize that I do fit the mold for one of these cancers but the reason I am not convinced yet is because of the way my lymph nodes are "behaving". It seems that many people with this similar problem with swollen nodes report that they go down after some time, for whatever reasons. Mine however (I'm up to 3 swollen nodes now) can be very swollen and large in the morning and gone by the evening. I have lost enough weight that my hips and groin area are very small so there is not much room for them to hide. I don't get it! Has anyone else experienced this? I have not found any info yet. It seems that those inflicted with this cancer have consistent swollen lymph nodes. I do not have them anywhere else on my body. My wbc count is low and my lymphocytes are high, among other blood results that don't look great. I'd love to hear an educated or experienced opinion on this. Thank you!

I am sorry to say, but. . . you have already heard an apparently eduated and experienced medical opinion regarding this matter -- from -- Your Doctor. He would not have recommened an Oncologist unless he was fairly certain about your condition. I realize that this is not what you wanted to hear, but see the specialist -- the Oncologist -- and know for sure.

Yes of course I will! I am very hopeful to have appointments in place by the end of this week at the latest. The only reason I am questioning a bit is because of two reasons... 1.maybe I'm in denial 2. because of the lymph nodes swelling then going down so fast. I have not read that anywhere else so I guess I'm holding out hope that I just have an infection of some sort. Have you or anyone else experienced lymph nodes swelling and shrinking so quickly?
Re: Might be Lymphoma but swollen nodes come and go. I'm not convinced
I finally got my answer about the lymph nodes swelling and shrinking...Swollen lymph nodes in the neck and surrounding areas do not have much tissue behind them for the nodes to "hide". Because my swollen lymph nodes are in a deep tissue area it is very likely that when I get up and start my day, that area can "hide" the swollen nodes. This infomation (true?) made me extremely scared. I go to the doctor tomorrow.
