Doc. says all I have is Mesenteric lymphadenitis, but it won't go away..in pain 24/7

I'm 23 and for 4 whole months now I have had a dull achy pain just below the sternum bone and the pain shoots directly through my body to the middle of my back.

The only thing that has helped with the pain so far is 15mg of Vicodin.

I am in pain from the second I wake up till the second I go to bed and if I eat something, it seems to hurt even more and I also get a bloated feeling.

I've had 2 abdominal ct scan and all my organs were fine, except it showed enlarged lymph nodes around my appendix area. I also had an endoscope with biopsy, colonoscopy with Biopsy, blood test and all came back normal.

So my doctor assumes it is just Mesenteric lymphadenitis, but when I look on MayoClinic it say's Mesenteric lymphadenitis should go away on it's own in 2 weeks and I only have 1 of the symptoms which is abdominal pain, plus the pain is just below the sternum bone and not were the enlarged lymph nodes are.

Could it possibly be something else that the Doctor is missing, because the pain is almost unbearable all the time?

Re: Doc. says all I have is Mesenteric lymphadenitis, but it won't go away..in pain 2

Hi there thought I would reply to your post as not many people on here do!! I read your post and read the mayo site re mesenteric lymphadenitis and I tend to agree with you, it doesnt sound like what you have described at all. Im not a medical person but I think that everyone knows their own body. I did note one thing from the mayo site though that may be your "ace" to return to your dr with. It said that if left untreated it can develop into sepsis so having had this according to your dr for 4 months I would push him on that. Also it seems to come from having had gastro at some point(did you?)but surely when they did the coloscopy they would have seen some sort of irritation of the bowel????If you feel the dr hasnt done enough to put your mind to rest I would push him for answers. You are too young to be stuck taking bloody vicodin and putting up with that kind of pain. Good luck !!!

My daughter who is 8 has had the same thing for over three months now! The good new is that it will gradually fade away and come back at times as opposed to daily. Hang in there!! The docs won't find anything even if u have more testing and you can save yourself a lot of money!!

I feel your pain. I just joined this site because I've been having the same problems. I've had mine since september 2010. It just won't go away, and no medications help. I just end up getting all the damn side effects of the antibiotics. I had a bunch of testing done too and everything always looks fine except the swollen lymphnodes. If you are still on this site might be nice to keep in touch and see if either of us get any breakthroughs!

Re: Doc. says all I have is Mesenteric lymphadenitis, but it won't go away..in pain 2

My daughter has been sick for 4 months...started in stomach, then went to chest and bottom of rib cage then also her head...horrible headaches, dizziness, and blurred vision to top off the list. Now it's also facial rash that comes and goes. We left the medical field....because they weren't helping find anything and one doc suggested my 7 year old was now making up the new symptoms but we found a homeopathic woman who does nutritional response testing or called muscle testing. She from day one knew what was wrong with my daughter, she is waaayy cheaper than MRI, cat scns etc. Now my daughter for the first time in 4 months is starting to feel better with her body off of all glueten and dairy, which only aggravates a painful stomach and chest, and she is loaded up on probiotics and tons of vitamins...everything from liver and eye support, to immune support....it can't hurt to try. These people are trained as an NRT. The whole idea is that our bodies are designed to heal themselves.if we listen to it and give it proper vitamins, nutrients, and minerals. Hope this helps!!!!

Unhappy Re: Doc. says all I have is Mesenteric lymphadenitis, but it won't go away..in pain 2

Hi there,
I am 17 and I just got sent home from the hospital with the doctors prescribing the same thing.. But I've had the pain for a month! My CTscans only detected that and my ultra sounds, X-rays were fine.. I am worried about if they got it wrong and what your outcome ended up to be?

Re: Doc. says all I have is Mesenteric lymphadenitis, but it won't go away..in pain 2

Trust me, let me save you soooooo much time and money!! My daughter, who is 8 was sick with that darn virus that caused the mesenteric lymphadinitis in the first place for 10 months to a year!!! Her biggest complaint was constant stomach pain and pain below the top of her rib cage. We took her to every specialist, ran all different tests, bloodwork, overnight hospital stays, lots of missed school and special activities....all for nothing! One doctor did tell us that it is not common but you can be sick for up to 1 year and he was right. We didn't need any tests to tell us that..we just wanted to make sure it wasn't anything more serious, like you said. A couple of months later we had her abdomen re x-rayed to see if the lymph nodes in her stomach were still enlarged and they weren't, even though she still had the pain. It just gradually goes away, thank God. All I do know is that if she is only 8 and could go through that ordeal and that pain then anyone can! Good luck. In the meantime make sure you eat extra healthy, get plenty of sleep, and take a type of probiotic vitamin from a health food store to help boost your body.

Re: Doc. says all I have is Mesenteric lymphadenitis, but it won't go away..in pain 2

We tried all types of medication...tylenol with codine, and stronger stuff which didn't help, massive amounts of ibupro..no help, tried a med that is prescribed for migraine stomachaches which didn't help. So we took her off all meds because they didn't help anyway. We did use ibup though to help with internal inflammation... we found that heating pads on the stomach or bears that you heat up in the micro helped a lot, especially when she was trying to fall asleep.
