methotrexate as additional chemo for follicular lymphoma, stage 4 grade 3a?

hello
my brother who is 41 and diagnosed with stage 4, grade 3a follicular lymphoma has been recommended to do 6 rounds of rchop. in addition his doc has suggested that he have 1-3 treatments of methotrexate injected in his spinal fluid just to be extra safe to make sure it has not spread to his brain.
has anyone had this treatment? if so, what are the side effects that you experienced? did you have this in the middle of your other chemo regimen or before or after?
thank you,
arbella
