Low carb = screwed up cycle?

I stingently followed a low carb eating plan for the past 4 weeks and am currently at 8 weeks since my last period. I've always been as regular as clockwork (every 4 weeks) and have all the symptoms (bloating, rumbly stomach, sore breasts). Is there a connection between diet and your cycle? And no, I'm not pregnant!

I started eatting soy and got my period again after two weeks. It could be the soy or more likely perimenopause. Strange that I have always been like clockwork and it happened just when I was eating all of this soy. I've cut out the soy and only time will tell if this is the new me and had nothing to do with the soy.

I would much rather have your problem than having a period every two weeks!

I don't believe there's a connection with your low carb diet and your cycle. I think you're just starting to have irregular periods which is to be expected especially if you're about 50. I was always regular and when I was about 49, I would start missing my period some months. You can also experience your PMS symptoms without having your period too. You're probably just going through peri-menopause like the rest of us! Welcome to the club!

Actually a friend of mine was on South Beach and skipped a period. She was on the pill and only 30 yrs old. Has taken pregnancy tests and all are negative. It CAN happen.

Given your age, I'd guess you're in perimenopasue. And there's a DEFINITE connection between diet and perimenopausal symptoms in that changing your diet can positively resolve many of them (not the period irregularity, though. That's a function of ovaries shutting down).
