Question Anyone been diagnoised with acid reflux since peri started?

At my last visit to the endocrinologist she told me to take Prilosec because of my symptoms of nausea and gas. Yesterday during my visit with my GP I asked her about it. I told her I was not having classic symptoms of heartburn or refluxing back in the throat, but she agreed with the endo on the symptoms of nausea and gas. My insurance won't pay for the Prilosec because it is now over the counter so my GP gave me Nexium. Any of you taken the "purple pill"? Does it have side effects that bothered you? Did it help? Thanks for your imput.
Penny

I was diagnosed with acid reflux and was prescribed Nexium and it did really great. But after reading post's from different woman on the board, I am sure it is one of the symptoms of perimenopause. Read Charli's thread she has some sound experience, and advice that worked after reading the book by Ann Louise Gittleman, she appeared on the Dr. Phil show you can check it out by viewing his web site. I feel after trying some of the things the book suggest's I won't have the problem with the acid reflex will let you know how it works. Dana

Dana,
I have not tried the Nexium samples my dr gave me. I just don't feel I have the classic symptoms of acid reflux. But I have more than my share of gas! I believe that may be from taking the natural progesterone from the compounding pharmacy.Glad your natural progesterone is making you feel better!! I hope your ride was enjoyable!

Re: Anyone been diagnoised with acid reflux since peri started?

You know I wouldn't have even thought of that as the problem. I'd been trying to figure out why all of a sudden I was having problems with gas. I never have before in my life. I'll have to ask my doc about that when I go in this week. I'd been having several other symptoms which led me to believe things were starting to change, including a period that just does not seem to want to stop. Maybe the gas is just another one of those extra bonuses.

I have never had a problem with gas in my life! I am 43 years old. Since all of these "things" started happening last August 2003, I have had increasing problems with gas. Two weeks ago I had such bad pain on the right side of my left breast right where the heart lies, that I went to my GP and had an EKG done just to make sure everything was ok with my heart. I thought it was gas, but I wanted to make sure since the pain lasted about 5 hours. I have been taking extra strength GasEX four a day for about a month. I have had pains in the top of my ribs too. This has been a real problem for me. I would be interested to know what your doc says. Please post after your appointment.
Thanks
Penny
