First Mamogram and Fibrocystic Breast Disease - Menopause Message Board

I am scheduled for my first mamogram in April and I have been examined by two GYNs in the past 6 months. Both made the statement that my breasts are mildly fibrocystic. I was told I would need a diagnostic mamogram instead of a screening mamogram because I have fibrocystic breast diease. Do any of you have it and is this normal for your first mamogram? I am taking a B-Complex vitamin, I was told it would help with the FBD. I appreciate any replies.

Yeah, I have it and my first ***** included a breast ultrasound because the breast tissue was so dense that they wanted a better baseline. By the way, I'll take breast ultrasound over mammography ANY day!

Stuff like alcohol and caffeine make the condition worse and boy howdy! Don't get me started on how much my breasts ached when my period rolled around!!

That's another reason to be turning cartwheels over being menopausal...

Thanks Charli! I am assuming that your first mammogram wa ok, ther were no problems just the FBD?

Just the FBD might be problem enough. LOL

Yah, the mammogram was A-ok. And all subsequent ones have been ok (but it's important that radiologist has the prior films to compare those particularly dense areas for any changes over time, so if you move, keep the mammography's center address in your list of important places). It also helps that I have no familial history of breast cancer.

hi, my doctor told me it should merely be called, "fibrocystic breast CONDITION." I got rid of mine taking 800mg of Vitamin E daily for 3 wks. Never returned !
