Although I'm not "officially" in peri yet, I've been checking my cervical mucus for the past 4 cycles, and have seen the "fertile" mucus only once during that time. A saliva test in May showed low progesterone, so I guess this may have been going on for quite a while already. My gyno wasn't of much help (said I was too young etc.).
I'm 35 and still have regular periods, albeit with shortened cycles (22-25 days), but since last November, I've had some unpleasant symptoms during the 1st half of my cycle (days 2-12) that are clearly hormone-related. I feel irritable, lethargic, depressed, weak and just lousy, plus my bowel problems tend to act up more, too. No anxiety, hot flashes or night sweats, though. Then, from day 12 onwards, I'm fine again (or at least as much as I can be, given my other health issues). Estrogen is normal, as are all other lab results. However, I'm extremely underweight and probably deficient in some nutrients (I have chronic bowel problems).
The symptoms don't really seem to match the description of estrogen dominance as found in Dr. Lee's and Ms. Gittleman's books.
My question is, could my symptoms be related to low progesterone, although they occur on days 2-12 rather than later in my cycle? Could it be peri, despite what my gyno said, or could they just be a consequence of my nutritional status?
Thank you very, very much in advance for any advice you might have!
