OK....here's the spill, I have been suffering from mood swings, hot flashes, shorter peroids, mid-cycle spotting, unable to sleep at night, head aches, major anxiety, urine leakage, dry skin. I am 44 and these symptoms have been off and on for a year now.
I had a full exam last week, I was placed on Buspar (2 weeks ago) for the anxiety and mood swings and that has helped.
Today, I get a call from my Doctor who states my blood work is perfect. "you are not pre-menopausal and your thyroid is fine...."
WHAT?!?
Why on earth do I feel like I do if I'm not pre-menopausal? Now I am scared too death, if all the symptoms I have are NOT signs of pre-menopausal, what on earth are they and what am I going to have to deal with when I DO HIT the level of pre-menopausal.
SCARED TOO DEATH! any advice or information about blood work, test, etc. is greatly-greatly appreciated!
Denise,
Please don't be scared! Being scare will only make you feel worse and have anxiety!! Been there, done that! I scared the jeebies out of myself! Save yourself a lot of worries and accept the fact that your symptoms are peri-meno. There are no tests that will diagnose you with peri-meno. There are tests for actual meno but that means you have to have no period for a yr.
I only had one period in 10 months, all blood work came back normal, had symptoms up the yin yang and my dr. said I was "possibly" going thru meno b/c I'm "at that age." Get the many books many of us have - start w/ "The Pause," "Before the Change". You will get a better understanding on what is going on with you and start taking measures to help and take care of yourself!
Please keep posting and let us know how you are feeling and progressing.
By the way, welcome!
Molly

Thank you - Thank you - Thank you!!!! I am so un-educated about this, I thought that when you are peri-meno that the blood work would show that you were in the early stages.
BUT! the blood work dosn't actually show that you're menopausal until you are without your peroid for a year or so.....
duhhhh! I am learning more and more thanks to these BB and great folks.
So I am NOT going nuts, I am not the only one on earth having these symptoms and even tho my blood work dosnt show "menopause" I can still be in the early stages!!!!
Yep, you got it! Glad to be of some help, Denise. Hope you feel a better. took me a while before I accepted what I was going thru were peri-meno symptoms. Once you find out other women are thinking, feeling, and going thru practically the same thing you are, you know you're not imaging things and you do start to feel better about it all. You don't feel so alone. I know I came to this the realization that this whole menopause stuff is a lot tougher than I ever imagined. And, what amazes me is that are women expected to go thru our late 40's, 50's feeling this way??! Yikes!! What a way to spend supposingly the best years of our life! LOL! Anyway, find time and go thru some of the other postings on this meno board...you'll probably find a lot of your answers there.
Take care,
molly

Ditto everything that everyone else has said. That is really what is so fabulous about the internet and information sharing. We connect with people that are going thru the exact same thing and can compare notes. Sometimes we end up knowing more than the doctors. The doctors are not here getting info. They got it all out of books written 20 years ago.
