Has anyone taken Aygestin? - Menopause Message Board

I was prescribed Aygestin 5 mg (Norethindrone) for irregular and prolonged bleeding for 10 days, 1 tab a day...Just wondering if anyone else has taken it and how it worked, and if there were any side effects?

I posted the same question awhile back and no one replied. So I guess no one has taken it. My doc. wanted to put me on it to bring on my period but I refused. I do not know why but it being synthetic I was nervous about it. Accupunture and progesterone cream seem to help and now my periods are more regular.
But I too am curious about it and the side effects.

I saw this up on the board and would like to know how you made out on Aygestin. I have just been prescribed that. I am 54 and have been bleeding heavy for three months. I had a problem before with that and the sonogram and biopsy always was favorable. Now my doctor says that my bloodwork is that of a 16 year old. I would have thought that a good thing but I guess not. If the Ayestin does not do the trick to stop the bleeding and thin out the uterus walls, I have to have a hysterectomy.

Not speaking from firsthand experience here,but my cousin had a terrible time with heavy periods and her doc put her on it and she did much better!

I have been taking aygestin for about four years now, I take 15mg a day and havent had a period apart from occasional spotting when i miss pills. It's been wonderful, I had terrible periods and my doctor decided that I should stay on this because he said I was in peri menopause anyway and it would be a help with those symptoms also. I used to take it just one a day for 21 days and then have a period but they were still horrible so they changed me to constant taking of this. Does anyone else take it all the time I wonder, that's my biggest interest
