Going Crazy!!!! Help! - Menopause Message Board

Hi! I am new to the boards and new to this change of life. Let me give you a brief history.
I turned 51 this month. Up until a year ago September, my periods were like clockwork, always on time, except for 2 pregnancies and a few months a year very bad cramps and a lot of bleeding, I always flowed 6 or 7 days. Last Sept., my period was 14 days late. Did 2 pregnancy tests, negative. I finally got it and it stayed pretty normal until this past August. I flowed for 17 days. On the 18th day I saw my doctor, he checked for fibroids and polyps, stool sample and a menopause blood test that showed no menopause. That day I saw him I was hardly bleeding, a very light pink. Ended completely that day. Sept., Oct. and Nov. was fine. Nov. 9th was my last period and here it is Dec. 21 and nothing yet. Occassionally I would get a sharp stabbing pain in my crotch lasting just seconds before my period started some months. I got this yesterday. Today minor cramps in the creases of my legs off and on. I am having a little clear discharge, nothing much. Has anyone else experienced any of what I've mentioned? Is this normal for a peri~menopausal woman? My body feels like it wants to start, but its like my period is stuck there!!! Very uncomfortable. Thanks for any advice. Nice to meet you all.

Hi, Theresa.

I have not experienced the cramping of legs or pain in the crotch region, but I have irregular periods and always have (missing a couple every year). You've been fortunate to have them regular this long. At your age, you probably will start missing some here and there.

I just turned 43. For the past 16 months, I have had some that have been long and heavy. For example, I have been tapering off for the last several days now...I started on November 29!! I also bled from October 12 to November 6!! During this time, I've had a number of "flooding" incidents where the blood is gushing out of me for a couple hours and I will soak through everything in minutes. It's awful.

I'm 51 too and had no perimenopausal symptoms at all until this year. Now I'm getting *some* irregular periods. I have my period now, after 54 days (yep, I still keep track..lol) and I'm bleeding a lot more than I used to, but I just take it in stride and figure that it's normal. I was feeling like my period was coming "any day" for a few weeks...lol. I guess it comes with the territory.

No need to worry. I am 51, will be 52 in March. You are at the age where you could easily start having irregular periods. I started being irregular in the year when I was 49. I really started having missed periods when I turned 50 tho - (off for 4 mos./ on for 6 mos./ off for 6 mos./ on for 1 mo./ now it has been off for 6 mos. and keeping my fingers crossed!) . I didn't start having really bad peri-meno symptoms until I turned 50 either. Never had PMS really except I used to get sinus like headaches couple of days before, which I still get occasionally but don't know if it's the weather that's causing it or what.

I had exactly what you are writing about. Natural Progresteron cream was a miracle for me. Not only did it regulate my periods but helps with the cramps you described. Reading your post sounded like me writing.
You may want to try the cream and see how it works for you.
This is how I do it:
On day 7 of my period ( count the 1st day of your period as day one) rub 1/4 tsp. per day on any soft area of your body. Do this till day 15, then increase it to 1/2 tsp a day till day 27. Stop on day 27 and your period will come within a week or so. If your period comes earlier then just stop the cream. If you do not get a period, then on the first day of the full moon begin the cream. Count that day the 7th day as if you had a period.
Anther thing that has helped me is weekly accupunture. I go specially for peri-menopause. I feel so much more in control of my life now, something I never thought I'd feel again! I go to a accupunture clinic here in my town so it only costs $25.00 for a two hour session. If you live in a large city check to see if they have an accupunture college/clinic.
