endocronologist appt. - Menopause Message Board

I am 37 years old and have posted here before regarding perimenopausal symtoms. I have my 1st appt. with an endocronologist on Thursday. My family dr. made the appt. for me because I was complaining of irregular periods and anxiety. What can I expect to happen on Thursday? Thanks for any responses!

When I saw a reproductive endocrinologist about all these perimenopausal symptoms she documented information about my family and medical history; then she did a sonogram and extensive blood work. We spent a lot of time talking and the entire appointment lasted a little over an hour.

The first time I went he checked reflexes and felt my neck where my thyroid is. Asked a lot of questions. He then took blood. I then had to go back the next week to get results. I ended up having a scan which you just lie there while the machine takes pictures. It was no big deal.

Do they prescibe medications for peri relief? I was prescibed effexor xr and took it only a couple of weeks and then stopped. I was waiting on this appt. to see what they had to say. Do I talk to her about that kind of stuff? I forgot to say I am also seeing her regarding my pcos.

The endo. that I saw prescribed bcp. Well, let me try to remember, first I was using the hormone patch along with Prometrium, but I was having horrible mood swings, spaciness, and feeling blah. All of these symptoms stem from my fluctuating hormones that I believe were flip flopping every few minutes

. That's when I decided to try bcp.

How did you feel on the Effexor XR? Was it difficult stopping after a couple of weeks? What dosage were you taking? My sister is taking Effexor and doing MARVELOUS. Since going on Effexor she's having a much easier time at this peri stuff than I have been. My current ob/gyn didn't want to prescribe Effexor. She gave me Wellbutrin and if that didn't work then we'd try Effexor. She stated that Effexor make many women feel strange. That surely wasn't the case for two women that I know; it improved their quality of life during this season in our lives.
