Bleeding for 15 days now!! - Menopause Message Board

I'm 48 years old and have been bleeding for 15 days now. I am probably in perimenopause but is this bleeding normal? Nothing like this has ever happened to me before.

Have you seen a doctor to discuss your concern? I've gone through 15 days and longer of bleeding (some days just spotting). Irregular periods is one symptom of perimenopause, but please first see a doctor if you haven't already.

I recently had some abnormal bleeding which prompted a visit to my OB/GYN. My periods had always been like clockwork, every 28 days, lasted 3-4 days and were never a problem. Then suddenly one month I began spotting in mid-cycle and spotted for over two weeks. My Dr. suspected perimenopause but to be sure she had to rule out other things first. It was time for my annual Pap so I had that done and she also scheduled me for an ultrasound and did some bloodwork to check hormone levels. Everything came back normal and my hormone levels indicated that I was in menopause. I'd never had night sweats or any of the symptoms they tell us about, just all of a sudden the abnormal bleeding. She said I'll be the envy of all of my friends that I've entered into menopause so easily! Ha! Just what I wanted to hear! Good Luck!

After normal 36 day cycles, I started having periods that lasted most of the month when I was 45. I'd only stop bleeding a day or two, maybe 3 at the most in a row. These periods were also heavy, painful and very clotty. My gyn could find no reason for this, so it must be perimenopause. This went on for a year and a half, mostly like I described. I tried everything and nothing worked to stop the flow. I was on the verge of a hysterectomy when the Depo Provera shots finally got the upper hand. After two years of Depo I still have periods every 3 months or so. They have lasted a couple weeks at a time, but are pretty light.

Please do see a doctor. Prolonged bleeding like you describe can be a sign of perimenopause and probably is. But it can also be a symptom of something more serious.

The same thing happened to me when I first stared peri. It was my first major symptom. I saw my doctor, who told me that it could be a sign of endometrial cancer. He sent me out for an ultrasound which came back normal. I had another similar episode of bleeding a few months later and he did an endometrial biopsy, which also came back normal.
