Checking hormone levels to determine menopause - Menopause Message Board

Has anyone else ever had their Doc check their hormone levels to determine whether they were in menopause or not? I had read that it isn't a reliable way to determine menopause because hormones fluctuate throughout the month.

I was tested at age 50 during the time when I started having really bad peri symptoms and still having periods, I was within range - normal, dr. said my symptoms weren't menopausal. Then after not having a period for for about 7 mos straight, it showed that I was in post-menopause. I haven't had a period since.

My estradiol level is in the postmenopausal range, but I'm still having monthly periods.

They checked mine too and it showed I was in normal limits. But I have all the symptoms. I am only 36 and my mother went thru menopause at 39. She never had another period. So...I believe I am following her footsteps. My periods have become very irregualar which is odd for me. I have mood swings and ....you name it I have it. I just went to the Gyn today and she put me on Progesterone and Zoloft...very very small dose of zoloft. I took it a long time ago and had that' dont care' syndrome. So we'll see! Hope all goes well with you! I know how you feel!

What dose Zoloft were you put on?
I need to have my hormone levels checked to determine if that is what is causing my insomnia.
