Wondering if this is Perimenopause?

Hi all. I'm new here and have a few questions that I hope someone can answer for me. I had an ectopic pregnancy surgically removed in June.

I am 35 yrs. old. My cycle in July was normal. However, my cycle in August was not. I started my cycle on Aug. 1st and am still on that same cycle. I have had 9 hours sleep in 72 hours. I am completley drained. I look like the walking dead. I have started having major hot flashes and when I do manage to sleep it is interupted with night sweats. To the point of having to change my linens I have been sweating so bad. My moods swings are horrific. If I can't stand myself then I can understand why the people around me can't stand me either. I am fine one minute, happy and content, and the next minute you would think I was the devil himself. I cry at nothing. I get angry at nothing. I lay in bed trying to fall asleep and my mind races about things that make no sense.

I have spoken with my gyno on several occasions and he has told me "this is normal after an ectopic removal" or "maybe you need to be on some type of anti depressant". I am not depressed. I am hormonal. I don't need pills crammed down my throat that I don't need. I don't need a band aid to cover up my problem, I need my problem fixed. I have one child and I didn't experience anything like this after his birth. I can't be placed on birth control of any kind to try and regulate me due to being hypertensive. He told me to "suck it up and it'll pass". Well tell that to the judge when I'm on trial for murder when I completley lose it and kill someone!

My questions are....has anyone here ever experienced anything like this after an ectopic? Does any of this sound like perimenopause? Do I need a new gyno? Is this normal?

Thank you in advance.

I've never had an ectopic pregnancy, so I can't say, but it sure sounds like perimenopause to me. If your doctor really told you to "suck it up," I'd definitely say you need another one. There are other things that may help you other than birth control pills. Once I took Provera for a week and it regulated my cycles for four years. I had hypertension at the time too. I also took Atenolol and it helped with palpitations and anxiety. Best wishes, I hope you feel better soon!

I'm sorry that you are going through this ordeal, but be encouraged. First of all please seek a second opinion. Any doctor who would tell you to suck it up definitely doesn't need to be practicing medicine. It's obvious that you've gone through somethings both physically and emotionally and you need some answers and help. I've never had an ectopic pregnancy so I can not speak on that matter.

As SRMom stated there are other options besides birth control pills. I also have developed hypertension due to perimenopause. I'm presently taking blood pressure medication and Wellbutrin antidepressant. From your post you'd prefer not take an antidepressant, and I fully understand your apprehension because I've been there, but please seek better medical advice and evaluate all your options. Right now you need to feel better.

Re: Wondering if this is Perimenopause?

I really hate to find another gyno because the one I have has been wonderful. He was so compassionate when I had the surgery, etc. I guess he just has an odd sense of humor in telling me to suck it up.

The reason why I am so apprehensive in taking anti depressants is because I have been down that road many years ago. I tried Prozac (almost committed myself to a rubber room), Paxil worked for about a year then it didn't work at all. I tried Wellbutrin but for some reason it made my bp rise higher than my normal high. I know we are all different and some drugs work for some in a good day and some in a bad way. I just hate to go back down that road.

He is just very leary of putting me on any type of meds right now due to my bp. I am currently on the Catapres patch and I have Clonidine for when it gets to high. I am currently uder the care of a Nephrologist and a Cardiologist because my bp is pretty severe.

I just don't know which way to turn right now. My son is to the point of wanting to go live with my Mom and I can't blame him. If I could move away from me I probably would to. I will check with my Dr's and see what other routes there are to take. I'm sure there is something out there.

Thank You all for your responses.

Re: Wondering if this is Perimenopause?

Hi, I recently turned 40 in May and I have 2 children ages 19 and 10. I always had a normal period until after the birth of my last child. I had my tubes tied and they told me that my periods would be heavier than before. That, I could handle. For the past few years my periods would come and go and that didnt really bother me. But now, I seem to have a period last for atleast 3 weeks out of 4 in a month and they are really heavier than before. Then I may quit for a day or 2 and it start back up again. If possible, I may get a whole week , maybe 2 ,sometimes where I dont have one, but everytime I go to the restroom, I will have some spotting afterwards and thats all. I do not know any symptoms of peri or otherwise and was wondering if this is normal. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks...
