A Question About Hot Flashes - Menopause Message Board

I think I'm having them. It feels like I'm suddenly blushing all over for no reason. It isn't bad though, it doesn't last long, and I don't have the accompanying anxiety that I've heard mentioned. I am dealing with hormone-related anxiety; just not an increase with the flashes.

So, to the question: Are these hot flashes? Will they get worse? longer in duration, hotter etc. Dare I hope they could stay at this level?

When my period first started at the age of 12 I had the type of hot flashes that you experienced which is just a mild flush feeling in my face. Well, what I have now is full blown hot flashes which have become more intense within the last couple of weeks. What I experience is a warm sensation that begins in my back/chest and radiates up my neck, face and to my arms. I feel hot, begin sweating, and even the air that I inhale seems hot. When this occurs I can sit infront of a fan and hardly feel the cool breeze. Sometimes I even feel lightheaded. I must be closer to menopause because as I said this all has occurred within the last couple of weeks. Prior hotflashes were infrequent and not as intense.

I have a friend who has hot flashes. A lot of them. Probably 8-10 per day.
But the good news is that they are pretty much as you described. They
do not have any anxiety attached and last only 3-5 minutes. If it's
already really hot she will face sweat like a trucker, but if it's not already
hot, it's more like just a mild dampness to the surface of her skin.

She's about 64 and has been experiencing these for years. They've
never gotten any worse or better. She's tried all kinds of OTC herbs but
never done hormone replacement. Nothing has had any significant
impact so she's just sort of accepted them.

What I've learned in reading here for just a couple of days is that anything
is possible. But from my friend's experience alone, I know that mild
hot flashes do sometimes stay mild.

I guess I can live with the sweating. I won't like it, but I can live with it.
I'm just hoping that since I have a history of panic attacks, that this
coming does not trigger them again.

Hello,
Im new to the board, this is my first post, Im 42 and I believe Im having hot flashes as well, I have a question does hot flashes sometimes make your eyes sting or burn?, I get a burning sensation on my face sometimes and it feels kinda like a mild sunburn, not too unbearable but uncomfortable enough to be alerted to it and my eyes burn, or sting, I look in the mirror and my eyes arent red or anything, I thought it could be allergies? I have had problems with anxiety attacks and panic attacks in the past, but I never expierienced the hot flashes with them before, after reading all of your posts I guess it could be menopaus or anxiety but I wondered about the eyes? Thanks for any advise you can offer
