Inner shaking and quivering - Menopause Message Board

OK, I know this is a peri symptom because I've seen it discussed here. But this is getting out of hand. . . let's see if I can explain it. Last night I was almost completely asleep and was very tired. Suddenly, I woke up with a jolt. It felt like my heart was racing, but I realized it was actually the "inner shaking" that was causing the strange feeling. It was really scary! My pulse wasn't that fast (I have MVP, so I do get strange heart sensations a lot of the time). The quivering inside of me was so severe that it really startled me. After waking up, the shaking wasn't as bad. So I tried going back to sleep, and just as I was almost there, it happened again. This time I sat up in bed, really shaken up - literally, LOL! After that, I went to sleep and the rest of the night was fine, but I wanted to know if anyone else here has had a similar experience. It happened to me once before, a few weeks ago. Never before in my life has anything this bizarre happened to me, and it almost defies description! I hope what I've said makes some sense. Like I said, its a very difficult feeling to describe.

I've had the sudden awakening after falling asleep and feeling rather jumpy and jittery. I've read about other women experiencing this sensation during peri. and meno. so it appears to be just another hormone related symptom.

Yes yes yes! I had what I call internal shakes! Hated them! Think they were one of the worse symptoms to experience. You're right, it is a really bizarre! The same thing happened to me - several times - I would be asleep and suddenly I would wake up and my whole insides would be vibrating, jittery like. It was like this sensation running up and down throughout my body. At the time when I had them, I didn't know that others had them too so it really freaked me out. Both my gyno and GP drs. said they never heard of it as a meno symptom! Well, they really need to get educated because it is! There were times when they lasted for 4-6 hours! I was trying really hard not to take my anti-anxiety (Ativan) meds at the time (was afraid of getting addicted to them) so I would just lay there suffering! I wouldn't do that now - I would take the dang pills! I think taking Magneisum - 500 mg during the day and 500 mg at bedtime might help too.

I've had them too. They are very strange. It's almost like you are shaking from being cold, but from the inside. Very weird.

wow, I have them also...at first i just didn't know what was going on.I always wondered if you could actually see it or if it was just inside.I usually experience it after i have been asleep for awhile, but once i completely wake up it stops. I did notice that if i exercise during the day i don't usually get the shaking at night.
