Peri-M & Changes in Period, what are your changes?

Hi, at age 46 and peri-M for a little over a year now my periods started by being shorter and lighter.

When I was younger, I had a normal 31/32 day cycle. If I started on May 1st, the next month it would be around the 1st or 2nd...etc. etc.

At age 45, I first noticed waves of anxiety, mood swings, bloating, etc. and then came all the other symptoms...my OBGYN said I was "in peri menopause"

My periods started being less heavy, less clots and less painful for me. For the past 10 months I have had a light to med. flow and only a few cramps that Tylenol would help. If I started on the 15th of the month, the next month it would be the 8th....for almost a year - my cycle has been shorter, ligher, less painful. I started every 21 -23 days and only had it for 2 days!!

BUT! this month was so very different. I started having cramps and extreme breast tenderness/soreness the week before I was even due!

Due on the 13th and started on the 5th and it was light pink the 1st day, a light flow, then bam! heavy the 2nd and 3rd day....stopped on the 4th day with only some light spotting, back very heavy on the 5th and 6th day and on the 7th there was a clear discharge with streaks of bright blood and finally on the 8th day it quit.....Very different cycle for me. I have never had it last for 7 days and never been crampy the whole entire time.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced any of these periods from the Twlight Zone that have ya on edge not knowing what to expect next.

Thanks for listening!

Re: Peri-M & Changes in Period, what are your changes?

For years my period was exactly 7 days and always on time. The beauty of it was that I really didn't get bloated and I had no cramps.

Then when I hit my 40's my period became heavy with clotting and cramps. The cramps would be continuous for days, where I had to take advil regularly for the pain. I would have to repeatedly go to the bathroom to change my tampons because of the heavy flow.

I am now 48 and I never know how my period will be. Will I get two in one month? Will it be heavy with cramping? Will it be late or early?

Your weird period could just be a fluke or it could be the start of something. We are all at the mercy of our bodies. I read how others will skip a month or two without a period. I have yet to experience such joy. I know sooner or later it will happen. Lets hope it happens to all of us soon!
