Doc took me off all estrogen and bcp last week after I'd had constant bleeding for over a month. So now I'm bleeding heavier than I can ever remember and suffering terribly with cramps and back pain and that's AFTER taking 2 extra strength Advil. Waiting to see the gyn to discuss a hysterectomy but told it could be a couple of months. I'm actually kind of scared. Heavy bleeding now for 5 days and wondering if it will stop........and when.
So has anyone gone off the bcp after being on it for a few years? I'd love to hear from you.

You asked the question I have been wondering about too. I am on my 5th month of BCP and going to stay on thru the fall. But, like you I wonder how heavy and long the bleeding will be again. That is why I started on BCP in the spring was for the non-stop heavy periods. Is a hysterectomy your only choice? Were you having bad periods when you started on the pill? My GYN said the pill should get my hormones straightened out some so when I come off the pill things shouldn't be as bad. I will have to see that to believe it. Just watch your iron count until you the situation under control. I got anemic pretty fast from the bleeding. I read a post on another board where a lady bled heavy for 70 days then just stopped out of the blue and that was the end. Never had a period again. Good luck, Ann

Ann, thanks so much for your reply. I have a blood disorder than when active leaves me very anemic so between the illness and peri haven't had a period for nearly 3 years. I was on such high doses of steroids my hormones were thrown into a tizzy leading me to bcp to try to regulate things. The pill actually worked very well for a along time but cramps etc. returned a few months back, followed by spotting every day. I was also told my hormones would be regulated but this period is just heavier than I've ever had before and seems to be getting heavier by the hour. I'm being watched quite closely now 'cause if I become anemic there's a good chance my blood disorder will come out of remission and I'll have lots of other problems to deal with. All this being said, if I knew I'd never have another period after 70 days I would just suck this up and rejoice!
