I know this has probably already been mentioned, but I can't find it on a list anywhere. Does the "crawly bug feeling" under your skins sound like one of those meno symptoms? I have just really noticed it the last few days and it's driving me nuts. It is giving me the heebie-jeebies. Anyway, I'm just curious about it - I could just be neurotic. Thanks to anyone who can help.

This sensation is called formication and I have been through that itching feel like bugs are crawling on me sensation several times. It does get better .
I had it extremely bad in the fall of last year. It eased off and now during the last month, it's back. I find myself constantly going to wipe off what feels like a bug or feather brushing on my leg. Sometimes, it's just in my lower ankle area, other times, it's right up to my thighs. It absolutely drives me crazy.
I also often get the feeling of burning in my toes and numbness in my hands.

What a picnic....NOT.
Oh my, I also get that crawling sensation around my ankles!!!!!!! Along with the occasional pain in my toe, and numbness in my hand! I notice that the hand numbness usually occurs before my period start.
Thanks you guys -
I have been swatting at my shoulders and ankles for 3 days. I always feel like a stand of hair has fallen and it is tickling me - I have been going through this crap for 5 years now and I'm pretty much ready for it to end. With my cycle ceasing 2 years ago, shouldn't we be getting close to the end of it? I am just irritated and tired of the ongoing symptoms - thanks for listening. Good night - and don't let the bed bugs bite (even the imaginary ones) !

Oh yes I get this. It especially seems to hit me more when I lay down in bed at night..maybe cause you're laying still trying to rest and feel it more, whereas in the daytime you're more busy and don't notice it as much.
any of you get it worse at bedtime? I also get the numbness lately in the hands and sometimes toes..oh the joys of peri, huh????? LOL
Yes, actually it is a meno symptom and I had that where it drove me nuts. I had the itchy skin too all over my body and it didn't matter how much lotion i put on, it still was there. It's like something is crawling under your skin and sometimes it feels as it crawling on top of you skin. This is a common meno symptom and if you try not to add attention to it, it will leave u.
I'm so glad that others experience this...I get a feeling like that in my ear...maybe a couple times a week!!!!...but I quess it could be worse...HUH???
I am experiencing that crawley feeling it's driving me nuts, also I feel like I have itchy skin all the time and sweating I was 50 in may and havent had a period since january this year
We had an ant invasion after a recent heat wave. 75% of the time when I feel like something is crawling on me, it is nothing. But then there is that 25& of the time, where I will find an ant. So now I quickly look to see if it is a bug. I still can't get rid of the ants. One day they are in the bathroom, the next day in the kitchen, then they will reappear in the bathroom. I have left Raid Ant baits, but they don't even touch them.
I've had that too. The itch, not the ants, I mean, lol.
It's soooo annoying. It still comes, on and off. And sometimes I also get the general itching of the skin, which was really hard to cope with last year, when it used to come every single night making me angry and sleepless.

During peri and menopause there is a decrease in the collagen in a women skin due to a decrease in estrogen. That can cause the crawling bug feeling due to the collagen change. I notice it most in my face and hands where I know for sure the skin texture is changing. Due to changes in estrogen, your nervous system can go on hyper-drive, giving women feelings of neuropathy, electrical shock feeling and a host of other weird sensations. Many women at this time in our lives get checked for MS because we have so many of the symptoms. I was one of them. The neurologist is the one who enlightened me on problems that women can have with their nervous systems during the peri and post menopause years. I do rec. having bothersome symtoms checked by your doctor, but alot of the problems can be caused by changing hormones. Ann
OMG.............I just logged on, ready to start a thread on this subject, hoping to find some answers! I've had this for several months and it's driving me crazy. scalp, face, arms, torso mostly. Mostly a crawly itchy feeling, but sometimes, almost a slight feeling similar to wearing a itchy wool garment. Almost a burning feeling. It is almost painful around my waist where my clothing fasten. Feels like my nerves are burning.
I use the Vivelle Dot, but I am switching to Estrogel and see how that works. I don't think the Dot is strong enough.
I have that feeling to. One day having that feeling I thought oh its nothing just the bug feeling. Then I felt a sting and looked and it really was an ant on me stinging. So now I look even though there usually isn't any thing there just in case. I get that bug feeling on my face too.
