I had a scary thing happen this past Saturday. I was working on a 1,000 piece puzzle upstairs. All of a sudden my heart started beating wildly, and I felt like I was going to faint. I had to hold on to the door frame until is passed. I felt like I was blacking out. It was over pretty quickly, but it really scared me. I thought about going to emergency, but decided that I would just document it so I can tell my doctor the next time I am there. However, if it happens again soon, I definitely will call the doctor, or go to emergency if it happens on a weekend.
Have any of you experienced this??
I appreciate any responses you may have--Happy Tuesday!
Last week, I woke in the middle of the night and my heart was pounding so hard I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Normally, this would have scared me enough to go to the emergency room. The first time it happened was a couple years ago. So I consulted a cardiologist and we did every test known to man and heart. My heart was fine. I realize now that it's just a symptom of menopause. If you think your heart could be the problem, then ease your mind and have a couple tests done, a stress test and EGR should do it. If they come back fine, then just chalk it up to menopause. Now, that only if you think it's your heart. It's best to alway let your doctor know these symptoms just so they can rule out anything else. Good Luck.
Yes, I have experienced this. It actually happened the first time many years ago before I was in perimenopause. The heart can do little tricky things like beat wildly for a few minutes or skip beats. It is typically harmless. I have also had episodes where my heart just races for hours (this is when peri really kicked in for me). My doctor had told me many years ago that if an episode lasted more than 10-15 minutes, to go to an emergency room so I can get help to get it back to normal (which I never had to do).
I would suggest talking about it with your doctor, especially if it continues to happen to rule out any problems and set your mind at ease. If you are healthy otherwise, it's probably just peri! By the way, I started taking magnesium and have hardly had any episodes of the wildly beating heart thing.
If you have very heavy periods you are all probably anemic. Have you been tested? Those are the exact symptoms I get when my iron level is low. I hate to keep harping on it ...but it's such an easy fix..and I would hate to have you go through all sorts of exspensive time consuming tests if all it was was anemia. I find that Slow-Fe is the best iron supplement for me as far as not having the stomach problems associated with taking iron. Well, good luck ,i know those dizzy spells and heart palpatations can be scary. And i agree it can also be related to periomenopause.

Hi Viktik
I have had this happen so many times and it is scary. I really can't be of much help to you only to let you know you are not alone. I remember one day last year in particular - I was feeling fine and out of the blue I came over all funny and faint. Like you I had to hold on to something until it passed. If I remember correctly I didn't feel right for the rest of the day. It has happened other times also. I am sure its all peri related. Do you ever feel lightheaded and dizzy - that is one of my horrible symptoms also. I have so many I could write a book Another thing I have problems with is my chest. Every so often I get 'twiches of pain' in my chest - they are not so bad but they worry me nevertheless. These past few days I have another type of chest pain - as if maybe it's muscular. Oh, I don't know how to expalin it - sometimes when I turn around it feels as if I'm pulling something. Of course my heart always seems to be pounding away and I also get the palps. I do suffer with hbp but on medication for it - don't believe it is the bp as I had these problems before the bp. Other times I can just feel down in myself and tired. Most mornings when I wake I wonder what will be my symptom today and if I will survive it. Hot Flashes I don't have a major problem with - i do get very warm at times and have to open the window or just go outside for a little bit of air. Some nights I wake up and have to kick of the duvet and within a few minutes I'm cold again!! Oh, it's a merry-go-round.
Sorry for rambling on (started of trying to be of help to you!) but if you or any of the other readers have any advice.....
By the way I am 48 and have peri symptoms with a number of years only they seem to be getting worse. Still getting periods but have on occasions gone 2 and even three months without one.

Mine does that daily. It really scared me when it first started about three years ago. I went to a heart specialist and had every type of test run you can imagine and they all came back that my heart was fine. They told me that a hormone imbalance can cause it and that was when I figured out I was in peri-menopause. My palpitations only last a few seconds and I have blacked out for a blink a few times. It makes you feel like your head is "bubbling" inside when it does it. I'm in full menopause now (no period since 2005) and taking hormones and it still does it but not as bad as it did when it all first started. Hang in there.
I am 40 and have a fainting/shaking episode every month day 8-11 of my cycle. I have been diagnosed with neurocardiogenic syncope but since it is at the same time of the month each month I know something hormonal is going on. I may try the pill but am afraid that will take away my predictability which I prefer and that the episodes will occur at other times
I started getting the palpitations last summer. It seems I'm usually doing something - it usually happens when I'm shopping. It also seems llike I start to get warm first - maybe a hot flash? Anyway, I did go to the ER last August, and everything was fine. I also had blood work back then - and I was slightly anemic. I mentioned this to the ER Doctor, and he said that most women who still have periods will be anemic - don't know if I agree with this, but it's true for me. I get that tested regularly now - it goes up and down.
BTW - I've never fainted, but a couple times felt like I was going to, if I didn't get some fresh air.
I am so sorry to hear about your heart palpitations. A year ago I had a couple of those and I took myself to the ER. OF course, all was fine. I realize it is the peri symptoms. I have not fainted from them, but sure as hell feel like it. Please see a doc if it happens again. It probably is nothing, but it will give you piece of mind.
Viktik- you wrote in another thread about eye twitching. I am having the same issue. Have you found any relief for that? My eye doctor says tonic or benadryl (???) but I wanted to know if you knew something. I know stress and fatigue are part of the problems, but I also feel like peri has a lot to do with it.
