I have another question. Thank God I have this place to ask and ease my mind. I thank you all for replying to me.
Do any of you get pain when having sex? Not the whole time ...just a bit in the beginning. Is this also typical of peri-meno or is something wrong with me. I am 45 and in perimeno.
Thanks in advance for your replies. This has me worried since I have also had a lot of bleeding the past couple months. I just need reassurance that this can be also a normal part of peri. I do not yet have the dry vagina.
Oh yes, but I didn't have the problem in peri. It occurred after my periods stopped. Generallly speaking, when estrogen levels fall, thinning of the vaginal tissues occurs. This can cause dryness & pain, and definetly pain during intercourse.
You may simply be at the early stages, so try some lubricant to see it that helps.
Also, if you haven't had your doctor check things out, that might be a good starting point. Yeast infections, BV, and number of things could cause the pain also.
Lots of women go through vaginal dryness, vaginal atrophy, etc during "the Change" so you aren't alone, by any means.
Hi Slimseeker, I have the same problem. I'm 50, still have periods, but have low estrogen levels so I'm in peri menopause. Intercourse became extremely painful even if I was lubricated. It's more the thin skin on the vaginal walls that cause the pain. My doctor gave me Estrace cream, which is a low dose estrogen cream that you use vaginally a few times a week. It thickens the skin. It helped tremendously.
Just a warning though my insurance only pays for a small portion of it and it's very expensive. It cost me $74.00 and it's normally $90.00 per tube. You may have better insurance than me though so don't let that discourage you. Good luck.
