Does Menopause Cause Excrutiating Sex?

I have been going through menopause for about 3 years now. I have the night sweats and hot flashes. About 4 months ago, intercourse started to be painful but now it is excrutiating. My husband and I have used all kinds of lubricants and nothing is helping. It is so painful that I cannot stand it so we have not had sex for quite a while. Is this normal or could it be something else?

Re: Does Menopause Cause Excrutiating Sex?

You could have a condition called "vestibulitis". It is caused by chronic inflammation of the tissues inside the vagina and it's quite painful. You can do a search for it on the net. There really isn't a good cure for it.

If you have "atrophic vaginitis" (lack of estrogen from menopause), estrogen cream would help that in a very short time.

It's a shame this happens to some women. Men really don't understand. I hope your hubby is open to "other" means of intimacy.

I know the feeling well. It's like wearing a pair of shoes that blister your feet whenever you wear them. Pretty soon you throw them out! Being irritated and sore can set you up for all kinds of urinary tract infections etc. Then you have to deal with antibiotics, yeast infections etc.

Hope you can find an answer to your problem soon. Good luck and report back....
