Irregular bleeding - Menopause Message Board

I am pretty sure I am going through the menopause. I can go months with out a period. I am more concerned that although everyone mentioned gaps in between, is it normal not to have a period for five months, then have a period every two weeks? It is also very thin but heavy. Should I see my doctor?

Any changes like that are normal in peri. I have had very similar ones. I have not gone as long as 5 months but have had them come every 2 wks after a lull. By thin.. do you mean watery.(is that a word?) I too have noticed that seems as you say thinner or as I tried to say watery in the last little while. Also alot darker the first few days and then turning red in color.

By the way... I am Lesley too, also spelt with a ey. Any one I know with our name spells it ie,

You want to know about irregular bleeding? It couldn't have been much worse, I tell you. I'd bleed heavy for about 7 days, have 2 days off, bleed for 14, have 5 days off, bleed for 10 days, have 4 off, and on and on that went for AT LEAST 2 years. It was very difficult. My doctor suggested a hysterectomy, but we didn't go through with that. And then, at 40, it was over...well, I DID have 3 or 4 more periods in the next two years and that was IT. No more, thankfully (of COURSE those 3 or 4 were during holidays or special functions)

It's a beginning of the end. Try to hang in there.

Thankfully my husband was very supportive. He didn't like it, but we winged through it.

Dear Sheeshkabob:

Your post was very comforting. I have been getting on and off 2 periods a month. This month I got my second period after just 9 days of the other one ending. Even though you know that it does happen, you still feel like maybe something is wrong with your body. Reading that others have it makes you feel not alone.

I am glad that yours is over with. How has menopause been treating you? Is it better than perimenopause? I am still waiting for my period to skip a month. I haven't experienced that luxury yet.
