Help, what can i start to do...desperate!!!

Hi there,

Menopause started last year with night sweats...now these past few months I have felt so ill around my cycle and inbetween which I am finding hard to cope with.

I am living with herniated disc and recovering from surgery so I am used to pain and have a pretty good idea of how to mediate it but this is just too much on top of it.

I am nauseated, loose bowels. My headaches around my cycle time are out of this world. I love to treadmill 4 miles 6 txs a week and I find myself feeling soooo ill every a.m. My usual 5 a.m rise is now 6:45. I am feeling like a hypochondriac and dare not put anymore symptoms or complaints in the air as my hubby had been great through my surgery but I am as sick of this as he MAY get.

Help.. what can i do...a friend gave me herbal tablets but I don't want to take something indiscriminately. My gp is useless ...she doesn't have time in her appt to listen and I just use her for my prescriptions or when the kids are sick.

I am proactive so I will attempt any good advice... I hate being sick and its hard for me lie down but I found myself on the couch at 11:45 a.m just reeling with this. God help us all...

Any advice would help...believe me.

What helped me are two books that ladies recommended on this board. The first is, Before the Change: Taking charge of your perimenopause, by Ann Gittleman. She lists symptoms and then tells you what various vitamins, supplements, foods, etc that will help alleviate them. (All items found at your grocery store, or Walgreens) She calls them peri-zappers. Her list worked for me and I did not have to take all of them for each symptom listed. That is what is great about her book. If you are bloated or have anxiety, etc she lists like five different things to try. The first one on the top of the list worked for me.

The next book is by Dr. John Lee called "What your doctor may not tell you about premenopause". I found both of these books at the library.

Some people don't like to read, but these books explain what is happening to you, how you can help yourself and why the doctors don't.

I hope you feel better soon.

I have to ditto everything said above. I found both books extremely helpful. Anne Gittlemans gave me a really good idea of all the different herbal remedies and what might help for my various symptoms. I do a bunch of her peri-zappers and they've really helped with my low energy levels.

I also found Dr Lee's book useful since he says a lot about things that your doctor just doesn't associate with menopause.

I have found the meno symptoms come and go. I went through a rough stage last fall where I was barely able to crawl out of bed each morning. I felt like I'd aged 20 years overnight. That symptoms is gone now, replaced with others but it seems like that's what menopause is all about.

Just keep reminding yourself that this stage will end as well and get the books. They'll give you a ton of different options to try.

MsPostive,
I feel like I could have written your post. I have felt so rotten in the past few months, I too, am feeling desperate! I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you, I will take a peak at the books mentioned above.

I'll be 50 in January, have a 3 1/2yo bundle of energy (Thank You Modern Science!) with whom I can't keep up. I hit the bed 6:30-7pm and that's it for me. I am no fun anymore. I get headaches 1-2x/week and this terrible flu-like feeling, along with dizziness. YUCK!!

Know that you're not alone, and I hope you feel better soon. I hope I feel better soon, too! This really stinks!
