Re: What prescription medication was most helpful to you during peri?
Birth control pills helped me tremendously. I'm almost 55 and just stopped taking them this past Jan. I was on the low dose Yasmin. I only went off because i wanted to see where i was menopause wise. I'm actually still having reg very heavy periods which i'm kind of bummed about ,but I don't want to go back on the Yasmin at this age.

I did nothing. I didn't know that I was going into menopause until my periods stopped at age 42. I thought I was pregnant and went to my doctor. He took a blood test and said I was not pregnant but surprise, surprise I was 100% in menopause. I asked him shouldn't I be taking hormones and he said they were more harmfull then good and since I didn't even know I was going into menopause the worst was over. He was so right I am 61 now and I have never felt better.

Well at least there's hope then. At 55 i'm just starting menopause and have never felt worse. I know some people can breeze right through it. I think it has a lot to do with genetics.

You are right I do believe a lot of it has to do with genetics. My Mom was your age when she started menopause and I do not remember her having any problems. I just didn't know and I was working long hours so I really can't remember if I had any symptions.I do remember that my last period was almost normal and then the next month nothing. I never have even spotted in all the years since. The only thing is I felt a feeling of loss.
