From what I have been reading is when most women enter into perimenopause they will have a heavier period. Has anyone started the opposite and had a extreme light period entering perimenopause? I think I might have begun into perimenopause but, not fully sure. I will be 41 in a few weeks and my last two periods started off lighter than normal. Now this entire period has been very light. I have always been a fairly heavy bleeder and it has me wondering if anyone else has begun with lighter periods. I have also had some what I think to be hot flashes were I get hot and have to step outside or turn the AC on to cool down.Other than the very light bleeding my period as seemed normal. I started on time and had my normal cramps and all the other fun stuff that comes along with my period.

It has just been so light that I barely needed a pad.

Everyone is different when it comes to peri. I read that you can have lighter, heavier, longer or shorter periods when you begin. We all experience peri in our own ways. Some of us get hot flashes and some like me get cold flashes. There are at least 35 different symptoms.

your period will probably be all over the place for awhile....i was in peri for about 10 years before i actually stopped altogether...but i do remember that just prior to stopping my periods were lighter and kind of erratic...menopause isn't all it's cracked up to be...i have found that my emotions are now harder to control rather than easier....hope the whole process goes good for you....and i recommend staying away from HRT.....they have recently found out that women who don't take it have lower rates of breast cancer.hope this helps................................... ..............peace

Thank you both for replying. I do feel more at ease knowing that lighter can be normal to. It is so hard to get use to such a light cycle after always having heavy cycles. I have found my emotions all over the place the past few days. I will just start crying out of the blue for no apparent reason. My husband will be freezing and turning the heat up and I find myself on the porch trying to cool down. Guess, I need to fasten my seat belt because my ride has just begun.

Hi:

I've been going the lighter route for periods. I used to get a very heavy one, every 32 days. Now I get a light one, every 26 days and it seems to drag on longer.

My gyn said I'm likely going to be one of those women who just slowly dwindle down to nothing.
