Racing heartbeat - Menopause Message Board

Lately i seem to be able to constantly feel my heart beating in my chest when im quiet and sitting down or laying down. There have been times when i wake up during the night and my heart seems to be beating so fast it scares. I dont have shortness or breath. I workout five days a week for at least fourty five minutes and have no chest pain or anything like that. COuld this be perimenopause symptoms. I have 52 and yet still get my period every single month.

I am 46 and I experience the awareness of my heartbeat when things are quiet. It seems to be beating hard. I also get a racing heart out of the blue. I believe that I am in perimenopause and perhaps you are also. Have you seen a doctor to rule out any health issues? It's a good idea. I have been to a cardio doc and have had all the tests. Palpitations are a symptom of perimenopause. It could be just that for you.

Thanks..yes i had a cardiolite stress test back in Feb of last year and all was fine. I will mention it to my dr when i see him next month though.

wr....I have the same thing from time to time and I'm in peri. My doctor perscriped Atenolol (Tenormin) 50mg for it. It's helped me alot. My girlfriend had the same thing, and her doctor also gave her this. I'd get checked out for sure, then ask about this med. Are you keeping track of your BP?

I've been having palpitations for around the last month although I am now post menopausal. I also find I only notice it when I am relaxing or trying to go to sleep. I exercise every day on my treadmill and fast walk about 5 miles a day in total and I do get chest pains lately which was why I went to see my doctor. He told me the palpitations are just my 'awareness' of my heart beating and nothing to worry about and that the pains I feel are muscular
