Too Young??

I am 36 will turn 37 this year. I started noticing changes with my cycle in my early 30s. Over the last couple years my night sweats have been increasing and I have noticed that I have to get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. This is the first year that I ever skipped a month without help of some medication the doctors gave me. But from about 32 till now my flow has gone down to some months just a day. I think the longest I ever have is 3 days. All light, I never need more then a liner. I never have the same time between anymore either, some times it is less then 20 days other times I got over 35.

The doctors have not done any test of my hormones, they tested my thyrod and all is good with that. Doctors just keep telling me I am too young for this, but my mother went thru menopause in her late 30s also.

Dose anyone have any clues how I can get the doctors to listen to me?

Re: Too Young??

Have you gone to a gyn or a pcp for your symptoms. You are young but that doesn't mean that you are not going through peri. I would ask another doctor for a second opinion.

Re: Too Young??

the nurse at my gp's surgery went through a very early menopause herself (she's now 54) and was put on hrt because of it. it can have such a huge impact on your bones, etc., to have such an early menopause, and with your family history, i'm really surprised the doctor didn't take it more seriously. i too would ask for a second opinion, or insist on some tests being done to determine what's going on.

Re: Too Young??

You are not too young! If menopause happens prior to age 40, it is called Premature Ovarian Failure. This can be hereditary. The fact that your mother was in her 30's gives you a high chance of it. There have even been women in their teens and 20's.
I was just diagnosed POF at 39 but have had symptoms for 2 years. You need to see a GYN and be tested on day 3 of your cycle for Estradiol, FSH and LH. You should also have a bone scan.
Good luck. Keep us posted.

Re: Too Young??

Wow...

Thank you for all the great information.

I found a new primary doctor that seems to at least want to talk about it all. I went in for my physical this Monday. She is having me come back for a pap and to get things checked out. I will make sure I get her to send me to a Ob/Gyn.

It was nice to find a doctor that listened to my list. She took care of most the things when I was in. But seeing as how my cycle decided to work this month. Not only work, but my flow started just hours before my appointment. She was even wise enough to hold off on anything for my nerves till we know more.

They were treating me a few years ago for some depression and stuff. She wants to make sure non of it is from hormones before she gives me anything. She earned good marks in my book right then. She is the first doctor in 5 years that did not think it was "all in my head".

I will make sure I get a bone scan. I had thought about my bones and have upped my milk and dairy and also started a calcium plus D supplement.

I will let you all know after my next appointment. I am calling in today to set it up.

Natural Peace
