help

Hi,
I am 50 and have not had my period since April 2006 so I guess this is it....menopause. I do not take anything in the form of hormones and my gyny does not seem to think I need anything. What do you guys think?

...... it's mainly your and your dr's choice........ I would try without them at first. Then if you need to try hrt or bio-identical go ahead .....Some of us just try to deal with each symptom as they come up...... I try to keep away from harmones ...... hi adrienne. i'd have to agree with dee, it's up to you and your doctor really. i'm at a similar stage to you, in that i'm 54 and my last period was end of jan/beginning of feb 2006, so almost 12 months period-free now.
i took a decision very early on that i wouldn't take any hormones during this time and see how i went on. i've had just about all the symptoms to a greater or lesser extent, and the only things i have taken are the supplements recommended for us ladies at this time in our lives, which i believe have helped hugely.
my thoughts are that i've got this far without hormones, so see no reason to now take any. and that, with any luck, now that i'm within a whisker of being 'officially' in menopause, things will continue to improve the way they have done in recent months. hope this is of some help.

hi adrienne. if you check out the natural solutions thread at the top of this board, you'll see that ladies here take a number of different things to help some of the symptoms.
i take an all-in-one thing, specially for menopausal women, which contains lots of different things, but the main things seem to be calacium, magnesium, borage oil (similar to evening primrose oil), flax seed oil and fish oil. i feel it's important to take something like this for at least 3 months, for it to get properly into your system, and for you to notice any difference. i've been taking it since about april last year and i'm going to continue with it for another few years yet, maybe longer. i don't think supplements are things that make you wake up one day and think 'my goodness, i feel better'. it's a more gradual process, so that looking back you may remember how bad things were, and how much better they are now - if you see what i mean!
also, what works for one may not necessarily work another. good luck.
