Prometrium Question - Menopause Message Board

Hi Everyone. I am 46 and in peri menopause. My Gyno has put me on Prometrium ( 2 weeks per month) I am having my first period after taking them. It is extremely heavy with lots of clots. I am assuming the Prometrium is the cause as they weren't like this before. Does anyone know if they will be like this every month while I take the Prometrium? Or will it settle down after a couple of months? Any help would be appreciated. If this is what the Prometrium will always do I don't think I'll be able to stay on it

I would check WebMD or better yet ask your physician if this is normal. If you haven't experienced clotting or heavy bleeds until you started this and it makes you feel better then contact him or her. For the past few years until my period stopped I had extremely heavy periods with huge clots. Never thought anything of it and never associated it with peri-menopause. Didn't know peri even existed to be honest until I found this site. Many women, [removed] have all experienced periods that are heavy and with clotting. Since yours seems to have occurred only when you just started this new medication then I'd find out more information.
