question about postmenopause - Menopause Message Board

Hi everyone,

It has been some time since I have been on these boards. I was just wondering if someone could answer a question for me. I am 50 years old and have not had a period for almost 2 years (about 21 months). I get an occassional hot flash, more of a warm flash.

How long after your last cycle do all of the symptoms stop. I was just in the kitchen making my husbands dinner for tomorrow and all of a sudden my legs got so weak!!!! They were like jelly. Heart started racing also but that could have been nerves. Anyone get weak spells like that? I remember when my mother went thru menopause she would get nervous spells, like a panic attack but what I just experienced was not panic (I know, I have an anxiety disorder). This weak spell, jelly legs and racing heart, just came on all of a sudden.

Just curious if I would be feeling hormonal symptoms after almost 2 years since my last period.

It's almost 4 years since my last period and I still get hot flushes, some still quite bad, but they do seem to be getting less. Tiredness is another problem but have never experienced the weakness you mention.

hi robin----same here. had the last period march 11, 2004. it took a full two years for most symptoms to subside. get an occassional hot flash but the night sweats have diminshed and the insomnia is better. I do get PMS aroung the 11th of every month though. some dr.s say 2-5 years after meno and some say everyone if different. wishing you luck.

Robin, I get the weak spells with the racing heart but I am not in menopause, only peri. I am 46. I get the spells so bad at times I have to lie down. I also feel like I can't catch my breath. ( I also have anxiety) Have you ever had these symptoms before? I have had my heart checked and I am still in the process of going to cardiologist for further exams. You may want to check with your doctor to rule out any problems you are experiencing. Hope you feel better soon! T.
