World's longest period!!! UGH! - Menopause Message Board

I'm 49, as of today (2/2/07)

, and I missed my period for Oct. and Nov. Then Dec. 16th BAMB! I have been on it every since! So, from Dec 16-Feb 2. GOSH! Is this normal going this long after missing two months? Yeah, I know...PERI. We met. Don't actually like Ms. Peri, but I'm stuck with her. GGRRRR! I just wanna know if having a period to last this long is anything to be alarmed about.

Have you gone to the doctor? If nothing else, they should check to see if you are anemic with all that blood loose. I had a period a few months ago that lated for 4 weeks. Thought I would go crazy, plus it puts a damper in the bedroom. Then I skiped a month. When I got it, it was just like old times, heavy with lots of clots but that only lasted my usual week. My doctor wants to do a hysterectomy, but I said no way since I am soooo close to menopause. But I guess if I get another long bleed session, I will have to rethink my decision. I have lots of fibroids which causes heavy bleeding and all, but I was told they would go away once I hit menopause, so I am hoping nature will take care of them.
But you should go to the doctor just to check things out.

Since turning 40 I've had the never ending period... I have now had it since thanksgiving!! What may I ask is HRT? and can I get this without a presccription.

I can relate. I didn't get a period from December to February. Now I have had it, off and on (but more on) since February 10th. SO annoying. Today, it has kicked up again, at a moderate level - clots, etc.

Pretty much the same thing happened to me 2 years ago, and I had a whole bunch of tests, which were all negative. Shortly after that, I was like clockwork every month, 28 days. Now this again. Along with it, I have the nausea. YUCK.

Of course, we recently bought a second home in Florida, and this had to happen 2 days after I got here!!!!

I recently had a period for 3 weeks, so I know what you are going through must be hard. The long periods are definitely a symptom of perimenopause. I feel for you. Know that you don't go it alone. Many other women are going through the very same thing. Feel better. Keep posting, and let everyone know how you are doing.
