is this the start of menapause ?? please help - Menopause Message Board

Hi everyone

,,,i am 35 years old and started my periods at the age of 9 ,,,yeh it was a shock ,,,,,,,,,,,ive been quite lucky with them theyve been real normal and regular ,,over the last year or so my periods have got longer or shorter been a bit different and ive felt a bit strange but NOW the last couple of periods ive felt realy realy awful sick hot cold i suffer from anxiety normally and depression but that has all gone out of control its so extream plus im feeling wierd kinda like im drugged its horrible ,,when im having my period its worse at the beginning big time my vaginas getting dryer im having palpatations chest feels tight ,,i feel like im running out of air ,,now this month my period lasted for 7 days about normal for me ,but it doesnt seem to want to stop i have a small ammount of brown discharge that comes and goes but always there after (sex) orgasm this is been happening for the last week ,,,ive never ever had this before and its worrying the only things ive changed in my life is im excercising and loosing weight also a month ago i started taking an iron tablet each day i thought maybe i needed it and thats why i was suffering everytime my periods came ,,,but after reading on here im beginning to wonder if its the bloomin menapause rearing its ugly head the only symtom i have that isnt normal is my sex drive is out of control i usually have a high one but im despoerate for it all the time ???? any one help please

You're pretty young, but then your onset of menses was early too. Considering your age, you might also consider other causes. Thyroid disorders can often mimic menopausal symptoms: irregular menses, change in flow heaviness and duration, depression, fatigue, puffiness, hot flashes, the need for air, palpatations, etc.

I suggest you see your dr and get an endocrine blood panel run. Make sure they include FSH, FT4, FT3 and thyroid antibodies. At least then you'll have a better idea of what's really going on.

Personal note: the only reason I'm aware of this issue is because it happened to me. I was 41 when my FSH was tested and came back at postmenopausal levels, 28.8 (21.7-153), and I was experiencing all the usual symptoms of menopause. Turns out I had a thyroid problem (which still isn't fully resolved).
